Perhaps short of Beast's genius and gargantuan presence, Nightcrawler's devout faith and demonic appearance (coupled with a charismatic way with women, and a circus freak's stature and a swashbuckler's heart), Colossus may have sported one of the best juxtapositions in character traits among his X-family. The steely toughman and the sensitive artist didn't have a cheesiness with him, and the blend resulted in some nice tender moments (a la his making a painting for Marrow).

I appreciate that Piotr dude a great deal.

All your text explains almost exactly why he has been a fav of mine for a long time.

Righteo. So the following below is a quick and rough summary for any of those that may be interested in COLOSSUS BLOODLINE miniseries, or just wish to know what happened in it, or whatever, who am I to judge what your reasons are? Its got quite a few spoilers.

Colossus Bloodline starts off in a place also made famous as a name by a strong but intellectually challenged Womble... Tomsk, in Russia. We start off by meeting one of our main antagonists for the entire mini series. An
enigmatic and mysterious man in a large and substantial coat, disguising most of his form, save by the white face mask he bears.

He wades though snow, to enter a house where he proceeds to kill one of the occupants, a guy wearing a t-shirt with a nude Arnold Schwarzenegger on it, eating pizza watching porn. I mention this, because its important for the plot later. Anyway, he ends up fried quite badly with blanked out eyes as well.

At the Xavier institute Colossus is having night terrors, and wakes up on the front lawn after smashing his way though his bedroom. Emma finds something odd about his thinking before Kitty realizes what she is up to and shouting some stuff at her.

We are briefly introduced to another character that will pop up and play a part in this mini. A female reporter working out of St Petersburg. We head back to see Colossus checking himself out in a mirror or possibly using it as a reference for a self portrait. Emma interrupts a moment with him and Kitty to reveal her desire to see Kitty naked, and to inform us that his cousin from Russia is in need of him (the female reporter) and thus our adventure is about to get underway.

So Peter makes his way back to Mother Russia, he meets up with his cousin, Larisa, and yea, the first thing he does is mention how she was exactly thirteen the last time he met her lol

She explains to him a string of recent deaths, with one very disturbing link... it's their family, and they, are descended from Rasputin.. (granted thats their last name, that should be no surprise) but Rasputin as in this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_Rasputin (sorry, don't know how to hyperlink)

Switch back to Xaviers, and Kitty decides to snoop around Peter's room and she unveils the self portrait he was working on, and its not very flattering. He has a hunch, Hulk like hair, brown pants on, with brown socks, and uh blood and stuff is dripping from his mouth, knee and hands.

Peter and Larisa discuss the murders some more, and their family history and past. They discuss Rasputin, and his history in the Marvel Universe. Their bloodline, hence the naming of this mini. Larisa has deduced that only three of their 'bloodline' are left. Her, Colossus, and their Uncle Vladimir. An unusual name for a Russian...

Their is small demonstration of Colossus losing his temper and beating up on some policemen. He is starting to experience a strange and almost psychotic urge. A silhouette of two mysterious figures, in the distant background observe this incident. One appears to be the earlier figure from the beginning of the arc. The man with the pale mask.

Colossus and his cousin travel by train to find their Uncle, and supposedly last other heir to the Rasputin legacy. More talky bits happen. Illyana is name dropped. A flash back panel comically depicts Colossus moment with Riptide. (I found it comical because Riptide looks... funny)

Larisa provides her backstory as well, she is a pretty likable character. They met their Uncle, and he gives Jamie Braddock a run in regards to crazy, mad under dressed relatives who speak funny, but still, they manage to converse somewhat with him. Until our two main antagonists teleport in. The man in the mask, removes his disguise. Dramatically revealed, we come face to face with Mr Sinister.

The surprises don't end though, as Mikhail makes himself known, as the second shadowy mystery figure. (Colossus brother, but you already knew that) Some revelations are made. Motivations are revealed, and explanations are given. We find out more on both Sinister and Colossus family history, and how Sinister is involved there. Some elements of racial purity and building a superhuman army for Apocalypse wow are introduced, along with Colossus, great grandmother Elena, who is described by the characters in story as being Angel like, and her brother uh... Dwayne... (too tired to search for his actual name)

"Dwayne" is opposed to the fact, Elena has shacked up with Rasputin, under Sinister's direction, in order to create super children, with the Essex Factor (not a TV show, but rather what Sinister refers to then, as children who are gifted) Dwayne plots and executes a plan to kill Rasputin, it works, somewhat, Rasputin, is a pretty freaky dude who can endure some punishment. In his last moments, with some help, he manages to conduct a ritual of sorts. One that will ensue he may yet live again.

We basically find that, Rasputin, has the ability to return to live, and in order for this to happen, his 'bloodline' must be concentrated into converging with one living descendent, that person, will thus become shell, to Rasputins essence. A side effect of his bloodline whittling down by numbers, is that all living members of the Rasputin family will suffer mentally though the influence of Rasputin. This ties back to Colossus fit of anger. This is also why their Uncle Vladimir is insane. He, out of Colossus, and Larisa, was the weakest mentally and thus, had already succumbed to Rasputins influence. We further find out, that is he, who has set much of the events of the mini in modern times, into action. Recruiting Sinister into action again (Sinister had somewhat underestimated Rasputin's abilities)

Ol Uncle Vlad commits self immolation. Sinister takes his opportunity and fingers Larisa's head. Uh... okay, that doesn't sound right, but yeah, he literally fingers her head. (She dies) So drama is being ramped up, Colossus and Mikhail square off. They are transported via Mikhail's powers to a trippy buzzed out dimension/location. Colossus actually gains the upper hand, and almost kills his own brother (to prevent Rasputin taking over Mikhail, and returning to Earth) but of course Colossus, is Colossus, and thats just not him.

Mikhail cheap shots him, and then mocks him, then leaves him to die, (its a space rock, floating in that aforementioned psychedelic, trippy space, cosmos dimension.

Sinister makes the classic Bond Villain mistake of talking too much when Mikhail returns to him, preferring not to wait for Colossus to die in that Void, and egging Mikhail on, that he should have just ended his brother. He retells the tale of how his, Mikhail, and Colossus great grandmother, Elena, after finding out what Dwayne had done to Rasputin, her lover, killed her own brother. This is whilst Mikhail is burying his cousins body. (Larisa RIP)

He notes her necklace. He then tells Sinister of the significance of the necklace, and how there were two. One that belonged to his great grandmother, and one to uh... an old man, that used to visit her in her elderly years, when she was nearest to death. Or duh duh daaaah. Dwayne.

Thus Mikhail realizes that blood is thicker than water, love conquers all, and there can be only one, and one to rule them all. His great grandmother deceived Sinister. She did not kill her own brother, despite the fact she loved and worshipped Rasputin. Mikhail has a change of heart and goes to his brother Colossus. They have a moment, and return to Sinister together.

Colossus actually gets to look pretty good against Sinister, though this is explained as Sinister being a bit weakened at the time. Sinister hightails it out of there. There is another brother to brother moment. Mikhail has a suicidal resolution to solve the whole Rasputin thing, by exiling himself.

Colossus returns to the USA, and is actually a bit cold towards Kitty. Polite, but cold. He sits alone in his room, and with his skewered, and ugly visage painted on canvas in the background, Peter attempts his best Le Penseur impersonation, also clutching one of the necklaces that belonged to his great grandmother.

Its a decent read, below (next post) are some panels/scans from though out the story so you can check out the art work. Its #5 issues, available in TPB, reveals quite a lot about his family tree, and now lack of, so if your a fan of the character, its just good stuff to know, plus has cameos by Sinister and Mikhail.
I like Aurora, Domino, Rogue, Nemi, Agent Brand, Nocturne, PJ Harvey, Warpath, Galacta, Cassandra Cain, X-23, Battles, She Hulk, and.. some others.

The scans are really nice to. I singled out this one above because it really captures the essence of Peter. One thing about him is that he is kinda ruled by his emotions. When he feels something; whether it be happiness, regret, or anger you most definitely know it. And at the same time it plays against him because he might not always think the things he does through. Most recently like when Illyana was taken to Limbo and he went off on Cyclops. You could almost argue that he is crazy.

And lol is there anyone Sinister isn't connected to in the X-World.

No problems boss. It was fun to reread.

I agree with your description of Colossus. Its pretty clever plot point, that they pushed him to his edge in this book, with so much emotional stuff. I am not sure how it would have read otherwise.

Yeah Sinister lol, I like how they hold off his reveal for most of the mini too, rather than just breaking him out.

Colossus is at his best when pushed to the edge. I would love to see some more interaction with Colossus and Magneto. Especially with Peter's history as an Acolyte.

This 4 part story looks excellent, I've been looking into it recently for my Sinister appreciation thread. Do you mind if I use some of these scans when I get to that part of his history?

Petey is cool. And, ironicly, hot.
That Age of X pic at the bottom, who's the guy with the mohawk, the guy with the helmet in the front, and the naked guy behind Psylocke? And the blonde behind Storm in the second to last pic. Those are the only ones I can't figure out.
Hopefully Age of X will do some interesting things with Pete.
I'd like to see his son from the Savage Land used. He aging fast due to Savage Land screwiness, so who knows how old he is now. Peter as a father would be a new development for him.

That's actually one of my first official X-Men comics ever... The other was "Chaos In Canada", introducing Alpha Flight. Some guy at my school was liquidating his collection, so I picked those two up, not knowing their true value or what the X-Men were about. A few weeks of my best friend bugging me to sell them to him, I reluctantly did, and he turned around and made a 900% profit, selling it to someone else.
