i was kind of iffy about it at first. but i now like the idea of Rhodey being useful to the Secret Avengers because of his brain/knowledge of mechanics. it's not something i would have automatically attributed to him, in the past. but he was Stark's pilot originally. i magine he'd have to know the ins and outs of a plane.

Totally agree on this. Also, I'm very happy he's gonna be a regular in Secret Avengers and so far I'm enjoying Deodato's art.

I'd be happy if Bru keeps his tech-assimilation powers. At least that was something unique that made him way cooler than Iron Man's extremis suit.

Yeah it does seem feasible. I'm really curious to see what long term plans Bru has for him or at least if he will go beyond team mechanicc. Knowing Bru though, my hopes are high.

Bru did say in an interview that although Beast and WM are gonna be the team's tech guys, we'll see them kicking serious ass too.
As far as I'm concerned it would be a waste to only keep WM and Beast in the science lab and not get them out in the field.

Beast can stay in the lab. I hope War Machine and Valkyrie get it on together. I mean when was the last time Rhodey got laid?

Glenda didn't give him any. but he was sleeping with some random girl (and popping pills) in the first issue of The Crew. i hadn't thought of it before but Valkyrie might be attracted to the soldier side of Rhodey; much like Ares had a man crush on War Machine's destructiveness. of course, there's the issue of James' family being against interracial dating. i wonder where Rae Lacoste ended up.

The Ares mn-crush might have been one of the best things about the series. I still would like to see a reaction from Rhodes about his death. Val being attarcted to the soldier side of Rhodey is exactly what I was playing at, but idk if I actually see them dating. Maybe just occasional hook-ups of course if that happened to lead to something more it would be fun to see played out. Especially with his parents views on it all.

As for Rae, who knows? Maybe she will pop back up onne day as a psychotic murderous ex-girlfriend. Though it was never really established that they broke up.

seems strange to mourn the passing of a god. it's not like they won't just return later. but i think Rhodey regarded Ares in a way similar to how Marc Spector has denied Khonshu. and i've only recently gotten into the Dark Reign War Machine series. it's really engaging. i love learning more about heroes; their past(s). Rhodey's story would make a great movie/tv series. i like the "Everybody Hates Chris" flashbacks to him getting in trouble for doing the 'right' thing. i like how his mother is sort of the narrator in parts. i love the use of American Eagle. he's a great character to fill out anyone's supporting cast. and i liked the little nods to Rhodey's 90s series (i picked up a few issues of that as well). to your average reader he's a dull gray non-genius version of Iron Man. but this (& past series) make it clear that he's nothing like Tony. Rhodey's an armored Shaft; nigh unstoppable when he's out to get justice. he's also probably more prone to self-sacrifice than Stark.

the only problem i have with War Machine is that he tends to kill off his enemies instead of developing a colorful rogues gallery. like that dude with the cyborg polar bears. and the Eaglestar Ceo. they would have made great recurring villains. and what's with Morgan Stark's appearance changing from issue-to-issue. i have several of his appearances and he always looks different.

Yeah that is oe thing that got me about the series. He did have a bit of overkill at times. I mean he had some enemies that could really be built upon to be serious threats. Of course this is comics so they could come back at anytime. I too, loved the use of American Eagle.

I have no idea about Morgan Stark though.

Didn't know about it but I certainly am now.
My Heroes For Hire: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, The Falcon, Ant-Man (Scott Lang). White Tiger IV and Powerman would be interns.

i don't know if he has enough fans to carry an ongoing. but they should definately put out more War Machine limited or mini-series. i'd certainly read more about him (and American Eagle).

He and American Eagle should team-up at least once a week.

Monty what do you think of the interactions so far between Rhodey and Ant-Man?

they are realistic interactions, at least. they are two really different guys; from different eras. but i think Rhodey will eventually get used to Eric. and Eric will eventually grow up. what's going to force that to happen is being around professionals like Jim, Natasha, and Steve. these aren't folks known for wisecracking. i think Rhodes has a lot of experience that Eric would benefit from. i can say that War Machine will be at the top of the list of people Eric respects after his Secret Avengers tour is up.

did some backissue shopping this week. i wanted to read more of War Machine's 90s series. does he still have ties to World Watch? i didn't know whether Bethany Cabe and the others were supposed to be an extension of that or not. the book i just finished had Rhodey travel back to WWII and fight alongside Nick Fury, Captain America, and Bucky. he was trying to find that Sheva Josephs woman. i've come to the conclusion that War Machine is an extremely fleshed out interesting character who is packaged in a way that practically everyone overlooks him. Rhodey has been in a A-List position since the 90s but still has the reputation of being C-List/an Iron Man clone. it's unfortunate. because i could imagine a live-action War Machine movie being pretty cool.

p.s. The Advisor needs to return. he's a Secret Avenger-level threat (just above their level acually).
