Not too thrilled with the choice, but he was really good in Sunshine. If he can carry that act ability he displayed there to this, I can live.
Can't say he's one of my top pics for Cap, but I'm cool with it. Haven't seen sunshine, but I keep hearing good things. So yeah, it could have been worse. I'm still pretty damn excited for the movie.
This came as an enormous ... shock ... to everyone.
[/sarcasm]
Sorry CBR, I know you're just doing your job but it's not like we haven't been discussing this for the past two weeks or so and there hasn't already been half a dozen "Chris Evans as Cap" photoshop pictures.

We need more Black Knight and Faiza Hussain!
I think he'll do a good job. He doesn't really have a choice.
It's like I was telling a friend yesterday, "ask 10 people who should play Captain America and you'll get 10 different actors." I'm glad Marvel pulled the trigger and hired someone cuz everyone has been waiting for a Cap movie for ages.
I like it. I thought he was fantastic as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films.
I think Marvel made a smart choice with Evans. He's a recognizable face in the biz, not a small fish while not really standing out in any of his films. The average movie goer won't have a problem with him as Cap.
[Level 1 antagonism]
Homer: Ned Flanders, I mock your value system. You also appear foolish to the eyes of others.
Ned: Well howdy, Homer! Thanks for dropping by!
[Level 2 antagonism]
Homer: Past instances in which I professed to like you, were fraudulent.
Ned: Oh well. I'll just have to try harder. Thanks for dropping by!
[Maximum hostility factor]
Homer: I engaged in intercourse with your spouse or significant other. Now that's psychiatry!
Does anyone know if Evans is a good "serious" actor? I mean, I don't picture the Cap movie to be this dramatic art flick, but I also can't see Cap wisecracking and being goofy [the only movies I've seen Evans in were the ones in which he was playing the wisecracking/fratboy-type so I'm genuinelly wondering].
Im not watching this movie.
God GOD who the fu*k decided this?
Sure, he was great as the human torch... hes that type of actor.
But CAPTAIN AMERICA?????
1 The only person who can pull off being cast as two different characters from the same comics universe is Ryan Reynolds. Thats flat out stupid as hell.
2 He is not a serious actor. Hes great as the younger hero character. Funny and joking and whatnot. But NOT as the strong, detirmined war hero.
Uhhhh im very angry.
Freaking terrible choice. I hope that the movie is a box office failure and that whoever the hell cast him is fired. Like good god.
Stupid stupid stupid stupid choice.
Fine choice Evens is Jacked up most of the Time and he is gonna look good in the suit. His Height is a Little suspect but i'm sure they can find a way of making him look taller.
Well put, HeckBoy..I DO think there's truth to the theory that there's no form of acting more difficult than comedic acting.. If Evans can do drama as well as comedy then he should hold up...And stand up he shall have to do alongside Robert Downey Jr. I just hope they don't let him be the C.E. we've seen in other films..
Oh, and I'm a somewhat relieved after seeing Evans' performance for a split second in the Scott Pilgrim trailer.. Can't explain why...maybe because he modified his voice...Not as easy as one might think and shows some versatility..OK, that might be a stretch..
But...
I still can't fathom why Sam Worthington got overlooked.. Scheduling conflict? Overly exposed? He IS Cap.
Bad choice IMHO. I'll wait and see before dismissing him completely.
I hated PUSH and he was the Human torch in FF and was mostly a funny giy.
Cap is quite STOIC.
"You can't trust them as poets either. The true poet is anonymous, as to his habits, but these boys have to look, act, and apparently smell like poets"
Flannery O'Connor on the beats.
