Say goodbye to all humor in Power Girl.
I wonder how many issues in is Winnick going to kill one of her friends.

Weren't they trying to ignore the angst of the character for a bit and just have fun? Not sure how he'll handle it, but I don't see the book continuing the same tone if Kara is emo all the time. Moreover, they established her as a JSA character.

She has the JLI/E in her past, as she does angst, but wasn't part of the series that she was moving on and living in the now? I'll reserve judgment until the issue's out, but initial reaction's "what?"

I think Winick will turn things around. He isn't a horrible writer.

I wouldn't go that far--from what I've seen of Winick's stuff, he can definitely pull off humor. If anything, I'd imagine Winick's stuff would be semi-similar to this latest issue--a mix of comedic sequences and high drama.

He is, and his name on a book is enough to make others NOT want to pick up or continue on the series.

I swear to God, he must have some photos of Didio in drag somewhere as blackmail to keep getting DC work.

I'm really worried about "Power Girl" after reading this. I don't know Mr Winick's stuff at all, so I'll reserve judgment, but PG (as done by Palmiotti, Gray and Conner) has been memorable for its sense of fun and humor. It is not too heavy. And, quite frankly, the whole "PG as a tragic character, a woman without a home" has been done to death.

If he emmulates Dini's tone on Detective Comics Id be happy. As long as he takes the cheesecake down to a degree.
Then again Winnick is already talking about emotions which to me is bad news bears.

Actually, it hasn't, in any way other than having her whine about it---which is not really what she's about. If he can come up with another way for her to deal with it, one more in tune with who she is, than I'll be all for it. It should be addressed, just not by having her act out of character.

For example, in the recent Crisis on Two Earths, J'ohn comments to the bad guy that there's a reason why he's the last survivor of his planet---a totally bad-ass moment that would be in keeping with PG as well. But for PG herself, the usual way she deals with it is by crying or doubting herself, something she would never do.

I will actually but Power Girl when Winnick comes on.

The best part of the whole interview though:

It was actually the latter. Jimmy, Justin and Amanda were finishing up their run and Dan [DiDio] and Geoff [Johns] came to me and asked if I'd be interested in "Power Girl." I said, "I love the character, but I have not put one iota of thought into what a story would be for her." It wasn't as if I had one just sitting around in my back pocket. And it's that way with a lot of characters. I don't have a Superman story sitting in my back pocket, right? But I love the character. And I don't have a Spider-Man story sitting in my back pocket, but I love the character.

Don't get me wrong: Power Girl is terrific. But I really hadn't put 10 minutes of thought into it. So I did just that when it was posed to me. When they asked me if I was interested, I said, "Let me think about it, because I don't have a story." And this germ of an idea kind of sat there in my brain, so I said, "You know what? I think it would be really interesting if we weave her into what's going on in 'Generation Lost.'" What happens to them, kind of involves her in this way, and that's when I went back to editorial and said, "This is what I want to do." And they said, "That's great. That's very, very cool." It's a very interesting jumping off point.
Essentially... I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, but I will tie it into something so it will sell more.

I believe he said when it was first announced that he is going to try to keep the supporting cast and the tone that this last team has established.

So is he saying that Max Lord will be back to reunite the team? As a good guy? Any bets on whether J'onn or Ted return as well or not?

Frack. Back to a Power Girl whining about not having a better home than the one she currently has. I really hope that this is something that Winick gets out of his system very quickly and isn't stretched out for the next six issues or whatever...

I'm guessing they are going to reunite to take down Max Lord. He was talking about how Max brought the JLI together originally.

Power Girl is a tragic character, but she doesn't let her tragedies define her. (At least not anymore) As long as Judd gets that and doesn't have her angst about things PG fans have already seen her angst about for the past 10 years, I think we'll be good.
