Project CBRunway 5: Challenge 1 Voting Thread
Welcome to the runway!
PLEASE VOTE for the entry you feel best completes the challenge. Voting should be based on the design and whether or not it meets the challenge requirements, not art ability. The designer(s) with the least amount of votes may be eliminated.
NOTE: Only registered CBR members with a posting history may vote. Participants may vote for themselves. However any votes from posters sharing any IP addresses will be discounted, no exceptions. Any fraudulent voting will result in disqualification and a possible permanent forum ban.
CHALLENGE 1: LEGACY
For your first challenge you must create and design an original legacy character to honor an early Avenger.
It should be clear based on your design which Avenger your legacy character is honoring, but be careful not to rely too heavily on the original's costume. Your outfit may consist of natural or synthetic materials.
In addition to the required write-up as outlined in the submission requirements, you may include a three-sentence biography for your character.
Please vote using the poll, then feel free to make comments or ask questions about this challenge or these designs within this thread. Now let's start the show...

king white's ARAGORN

Merlin has intervened...the genetic engineering finished...the curse of the Ebony Blade has been broken! The one creature noble enough to carry the blade...had been carrying it all along!
The Costume is obviously based on various Black Knight designs. Limited the amount of chain-mail to give Aragorn the maximum freedom to fly and maneuver. The chest emblem now represents the battle helmets of Aragorn's deceased human masters.

LewMoxinsghost's CRYPSIS

This is Crypsis, and like the name implies, she can blend into any environment whatsoever, while maintaining the same powers as her inspiration- half Cotati, half human- she was raised by Titan's Shao-Lom monks- the same monks who raised Moondragon. Attacked by the deceitful Raptra, she promptly spots Raptra despite her cloak of invisibility and kills her- while Mantis' son Quoi looks on. Crypsis was sent by Uatu to find Quoi and at long last complete the prophecy, but can Quoi forgive her?
The color scheme for Crypsis pays direct homage to her benefactor's original costume. The leggings are exactly the same, but with added slippers for ease of stealth and a little sole protection; the costume is open at the sides to allow Crypsis' dominant Cotati side better photosynthesis (*cough*). Her celestial dagger is her weapon of choice, as she blends seamlessly into the jungle sky.

End of Time's BIG BRAIN BIG BUG

Big Brain Big Bug isn't the fittest of heroes, in fact he's kind of lazy. He's a scientist, just like Pym, and he's not exactly the most accomplished scientist out there, just like Pym. Big Brain Big Bug has "borrowed" Pym's research, and made some improvements. Big Brain Big Bug uses his gear to enlarge bugs, and telepathically instruct them to fight evil. Why shrink down to the size of an ant, when you can just as eaily make small things big? Way more efficient.
The costume is very simple and includes a stylized lab-coat with denim jeans underneath, plus a pair of cheap cowboy boots because he's a Texan and he likes to ride his bugs into battle and since this is serious business, he's wearing a snazzy blue tie, and of course there's a subtle Avenger's logo on his sleeve to indicate that he really is one of those old-school heroes. The helmet is the source of Big Brain Big Bug's abilities and he did NOT steal the schematics from Pym... unless the judge says otherwise.
He also has a cat names Felix that follows him around wherever he goes.

snarkbunny's STRIVE

Strive's costume is solar-cell powered flexible body armor. It's constructed primarily of para-aramid synthetic fibers which is lined with conductive thread to power springs and electro-circuits which provide high-powered jumping, a micro forcefield and the ability to short circuit electronic devices (at the cost of completely draining the charge of the armor ). The inspiration came from the simplicity of the Vision's various costumes and from the Vision's continuous efforts to become more than he thought he was.
When a little girl looks at you with hope in her teary eyes and tells you that her puppy is still inside her burning building, isn't that why we want this job? To make things better?

Dsquared's FALCA

The Red Skull originally brainwashed and empowered Sam Wilson and manipulated him into becoming the protector of an indigenous tribe of Brazilian natives on the Island of Exiles, but he didn’t “invent” the identity of the Falcon. He drew upon local tribal legend of an ancestral protector of these natives, missing for many generations. The current “Falca” was a young girl on that island when Sam Wilson joined forces with Captain America, and when her ancestral powers emerged, she followed in the footsteps of her childhood inspiration, The Falcon.
Unlike Sam Wilson, Falca’s powers of flight and bird telepathy come spiritually, so her suit doesn’t hold any technology, but draws from the clothing of Kayapo natives and the Falcon’s original suit. Her wings are a mix of real feathers from tropical birds and naturally-dyed organic fabrics, and her red body paint (the Falcon symbols and the “mask”) are dyes made from berries. Her tropical homeland on the Eastern coast of Brazil allow her to comfortably wear very little, and the green and orange color scheme mimic the original Falcon costume, along with the belt buckle, and white-fringed boots (made from bleached plant fibers, in this case.)

CBrown's WAVENGER

Justin Reynolds was a young man spending his days surfing in Santa Monica, CA, when he witnessed the West Coast Avengers in action saving his community. Most impressed by their leader, Hawkeye, Justin devoted himself to archery as well as surfing and took the identity WAvenger in honor of his hero.
WAvenger wears classic surfer gear - microfiber swim shorts, light cotton beach shirt, and flip-flops - designed with the palette and patterns of Hawkeye's classic costume. His shades are reminiscent of Hawkeye's mask.

Gadfly's SILVER WASP

Shortly after the superhero Civil War Tony Stark found his body and armor infected by the Ultron A.I. which used the Extremis virus to transform both into a hybrid metal and organic body which resemble Janet Van Dyne, the wasp. During this time Ultron battled the Sentry and several pieces of this body were torn from him and never recovered. The missing pieces were then taken over by the Jocasta software living dormant in Ultron and were able to use the Extremis virus to construct a body combining the personality of Jocasta and a teenage Janet Van Dyne, thus Jo Van Dyne was born.
Jo’s superhero identity “Silver Wasp” draws on visual elements of both her “mothers” . Her costume is constructed of P. Y. Matter and bonds with her skin when she summons it by tapping her “W” pendent given to her by Hank Pym. Whereas Pym Particles can grow and shrink objects P. Y. Matter allows Silver Wasp to grow and shrink Space, giving her the ability to fly at high speeds and fire a concussion blast from her hands in addition to her regular Jocasta type powers.

Jaye's JACK B

Jack B's black, blue, and silver suit is made from a midweight spandex and kevlar weave, with ultimate flexibility and durability for cyclone-speed running, and the neck has an open tracksuit collar. Jack B's symbol is a cyclone emblem showing on his upper arm sleeve; and like Quicksilver, his suit design relies on line, not accessories (Jack's colors taper and spin like a cylcone). His running sneakers have heavy-duty treads, the high tops re-inforced by laces wrapping around; the zipper up the back has a lightning bolt shaped zip-pull as a nod to Quicksilver.

atoningunifex's MISS MARVEL: SCIENCE HERO OF FIVE DIMENSIONS

When young physicist Keiko Funakoshi is exposed to unknown radiation during an experiment gone awry she finds herself able to call on the abilities, strength and speed of four alternate universe versions of herself( a housewife, an investment banker, a teenager, and a lady wrestler). Deciding to fight evil and promote good, she takes inspiration from her childhood hero, Ms. Marvel. Calling herself Miss Marvel, Science Hero of Five Dimensions, Keiko fights for honor, truth, and ass-kickin' science!
Miss Marvel's outfit is a combination of the original Ms. Marvel outfit (the red and blue color scheme, the star emblem), the "classic" Ms. Marvel outfit (the asymmetrical "lightning bolt", thigh boots, longer gloves), and the outfit Carol wore as Binary (white added in to the color scheme).

Pro's GAZELLE

Gizelle N'tari is a runner who brought an Olympic gold medal home to Wakanda after King T'Challa finally allowed the African nation to send a delegation. But Gizelle's legs were crushed during a terrorist attack on the Wakandan royal couple, and it took more than a year and half a dozen operations before she could walk again, but she would never run like she used to. That is until T'Challa offered her a special herb that healed her fully and granted her superhuman speed, enhanced strength and reflexes. No longer able to compete in the olympics, and unwilling to take on the Panther mantle, Gizelle instead began training with the Black Panther and became one of Wakanda's protectors.
I didn't want to do a variation on the panther. Gazelle shares the Black Panther's origin and honors his legacy by fighting for Wakanda but chose to model herself after another african animal. The outfit reflects the colors and patterns of a gazelle with horns adorning her mask while one side of her dress is pulled into a knot for an assymmetrical effect.

AnkaleRa's SAPPHIRE WITCH

Mainly, the costume is made from unstable molecule material, which absorbs some of the impact from blows and bullets. For the design I wanted to make something more youthful (hence the tattoo) and modern that still was a nod to the Scarlet Witch's costumes (i.e. hood/cape combo, M motif (can you find it?), etc.). For the color, I wanted to change up from red (since she has her own persona), thought a primary color would be best, and since yellow would look odd I went with blue (which also is a nod to her father).
Daughter of Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) and Amanda Sefton (Magik II), Samantha Wagner was attuned to magic from a young age. Under the tutelage of Wanda Maximoff, formerly the Scarlet Witch, Sam grew in her power and skill. With her teacher's blessing she took the name the Sapphire Witch, adopted a costume based off the costume of the Scarlet Witch, and began training as an Avenger.

deanlegion's FREAKSWORD

Lester Newcomb was practically the *definition* of a misfit. It wasn't until he left his disfunctional family home and joined up with a local freak show troupe as a sword swallower that he felt a sense of belonging. Further, he found true inspiration, a kindred spirit, when he saw video of The Swordsman alongside The Avengers.
Les fashioned a costume, inspired by The Swordsman's, from modern colored leathers, which are meant to show off his tatoos and several piecings. His goal is to look similar to The Swordsman, yet still show his "freaky" side.

red-handed's BEAST

Materials are leather straps around the forearms and lowerleg to ankle region for protection in hand to hand combat. The rest is made from a fiber he picked up on Ape World...the staff is just a lightweight metal...
The person is Martin Blank and after finally succeeding at becoming a real hero he wanted to take it to the next step so he sought out Hank McCoy for further training since they shared a similar mutation. One day Hank went missing so boom we have a new Beast, well at least until Gibbon, now calling himself the Beast, finds Hanks whereabouts...

ZacharyLovesYou's BLACK WIDOW

This new legacy of Black Widow seeks to set a new image for itself. Gone is the plunging neckline and cleavage; instead, this new Black Widow dons a completely functional bio-suit, enhancing all of her abilities, wrapped in a thermal/protective jump suit. Homage to the old costume is there in the red and black motif of the new outfit, however, I tried to make this new look more purposeful and less about the sexiness of a skin-tight black costume.
