    Default Computer Question

    Okay, so I'm clueless...

I have a Gateway laptop computer. I'm going to be traveling this summer and one of the hotels I will be staying with has "plug and play" technology that, theoretically, should allow me to plug in my computer and play whatever is on the computer onto the flat screen TV mounted on the wall. The thing is, I don't own the cables that I hook from my computer into their 'plug and play' box. I have NO idea what kind of cables/equipment I need to buy in order to make this work and I would like to be able to run DVD's on my computer and have them play on the big TV while I'm staying at the hotel.

Does anyone have ANY idea what I need?

I'm not 100% sure but I would imagine it's an HDMI cable. What model is your laptop? Is there any way you could get more info about the hotels equipment? I think they can do this wireless.

If it is a modern laptop of decent quality then you should have an HDMI socket.

I just got a laptop myself (a Dell Studio 15) and it has an HDMI socket for video playback on TV.

I wasn't sure that Gateway machines were still around as Acer pretty much wiped out the brand after their purchase of the brand.
    Hmm...

Don't most hotel rooms have dvd players, anyway.

I know the place we stayed at in Chicago last summer did; and it was pretty "low rent".

That's because you're so cheap and I'm not talking about money.

No DVD player there unless they've changed things... which I doubt since it was a pretty new hotel when we stayed there.

I'll look into the HDMI cable. Besides, it will have other benefits -- like being able to run junk off of YouTube on the big screen... The friend I travel with is a big Batman fan, loved the Animated series but he's never seen any of the stuff from the "Arkham Asylum" video game and I want to show him some of what's on YouTube -- I think he'll be blown away by it.

If you know for a fact that it's going to be a modern television then HDMI.

But if it's not, then probably an S-video cable and a Y-splitter for the audio (headphone becoming red + white jacks).

Without knowing what the hotel has, I would carry both of these to be sure:

I can't really find a picture of what the box looks like. Here's the best I can do -- http://www.starwoodhotels.com/alofth...ropertyID=3124 The plug and play box is the little gray box mounted on the edge of the desk in the picture -- in between the teal colored chair and the purple and teal settee.

It doesn't look like your computer has an hdmi output. You should call the hotel and ask what you need to connect to the box.
