New teaser.
I have to say, what little we hear of Dinklage's accent in that clip didn't sound bad.

So is season one the beginning and ending of the first book, or did they combine multiple books into one season? Anyone know? The first three books were freaking awesome, but I honestly wouldn't care if HBO went its own direction with the fourth season if each year represents a book. That fourth book was a snore fest. I'm just glad that HBO (and some other cable companies) are forking out the cash to do these fantasy or period pieces. There's only so many detective, mafia or teen angst dramas I can take.
I have never read the books, but this HBO series looks awesome.![]()

I believe they've stated that it is indeed the intent to do one book a season, though I vaguely recall Martin commenting that it might occur that the longer books get broken into two.
Especially since unless they have very long gaps between seasons, the TV series is likely to outpace Martin's books.
I hope they do less than one book per season, if only because there's just so much story to get through and I'd hate to see anything skipped. Also at two seasons a book we might just have a shot at the series ending before the show, since A Dance With Dragons SHOULD be coming out soon.
Slayven ftw.
"Looksky! Birdplane!"
I'll put it this way: I'm relatively certain that some of the glimpses that have been shown in the previews and behind-the-scenes stuff depict events that happen in the latter half of the book. Unless they're filming concurrent seasons (which I don't think they are), they're looking to get most or all of book one in the first season.
Now, it's entirely possible that they'll break the seasons up, as well. Following that really annoying "Season 1.0/Season 1.5" method that's becoming popular of late. In other words, show the first half of season one...wait 3-6 months, then show the second half.
I'm not sure of how many episodes the first season is supposed to be, but generally HBO series run 10-14 episodes per season or so...sometimes with two-hour episodes for premieres and finales. I think you can squeeze Martin's books into 10-16 hours of airtime without losing pertinent plot points. It's inevitable that some characters will likely be lost or condensed with a cast as large as the books, but I think the main story and important supporting characters will all remain intact.

Looks like the last line of episode one will be "the things I do for love". Hell of a way to end an episode.
Agreed. Gillen can do sly, playful characters well.

That was awesome!! I love the weariness the Sean Bean is showing in his portrayal of Ned.
They need to delay this by like a month or something. I'm only on page 284 of the book and I want to finish before the series starts.
Free your soul and let it fly....
You'll probably be ahead well ahead of the first couple episodes by the time they air.
I finished the book a couple weeks ago, I'm looking forward to this.
The first 15 minutes are spoilers:end of spoilers
quite faithful the beginning of the book. The prologue is shorter and actually reveals less of the Others than the narrative described.
Robb looks older than I pictured, but everyone else is good.
I think Lena Headey as Cersi will be tough for me to get used to, because she's who I pictured as Caitlyn Stark while reading.
