Instead of using CGI for the direwovles this season, they should have used some big ass wolf dogs or any kind of dogs, I don't care, that looks like a wolf, and use the money they used for the direwovles, for the dragons instead. More money for dragons, means for screen time for dragons.

edit: And if they used real dogs/wolves for this season, instead of CGI direwolves, the direwolves wouldn't be reduce to almost zero screen time.
Perhaps you didn´t read my previous post?

    They didn´t´use CG direwolves

    They used northern inuit dogs.

    I´d say it´s a small price to pay. ^_^

I have seen scenes where i am 100% postive they fudged with the size of those dogs, because they aren't that big.

There's definitely some CG enlarging going on, e.g. when Grey Wind stalks into Jaime's cell.

They have indeed, and to varying degrees of believability. Sometimes the effects aren't that noticeable and at others they don't look that great at all.
Disreagard the text, but this picture is an example of what I'm talking about:

It looks cg to me, especially when it moved.

They have mapped them digitally and upscale them in post production, live action dogs were used for the first season only. It's like the Ruffalo/Hulk thing, the dogs provide the live model on which the upscaled CGI model is placed but it's not like they are not physically represented on set, according to the Empire piece on the second season's production, they are there but obviously smaller. So it's a case of half and half, live actions dogs with CGI post production enhancement.

True, but they still aren't hot. Ygritte, OTOH, looks better than alot of the chars who're supposed to be pretty

HBO doesn´t have the money to make a CG direwolf, so they use the cheapest next best thing.
They grab regular northern inuit dogs and they beef up their size.

The fake feel you get comes from them trying to composite the bigger dog into the scenne.

The composition is not always seamless.

Basically, yeah. They upscale the model but in doing so they try to reduce the visible pixellation and have varying degress of success given the time and budget they have to work with. Bran falling out the tower in the pilot episode looks ropey if you look at it a few times.

Pixelation is not so much of an issue these days when everybody and their squirrel sidekick can film raws.

The biggest compositing headaches comes with the camera matching/rotoscoping/colour correction/light source placement stuff.

Its not CG, it's green screen which they then blow up to make them seem bigger.
But, yeah, for some weird reason ( maybe it's a book reason?) they have the wolves move sort of a slightly slower speed.

    Excellent episode. Tywin/Arya rock.

Also, good rendition of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0xu7P-zzsk

I watched. I thought the John Snow/Wilding Girl scenes went on too long. I don't think (or at least I truly hope) that that is not really Bronn. Daenery was particularly bitchy in this ep. And Jamie Lanaster is either a sociopath or wants to die, or both.

The departures from the books are getting staggering with the latest few episode, and I like it. It keeps me on my toes.

I can understand cutting out the whole of the Riverlands. Pretty superfluous in the grand scheme of things.

Do you suppose Tywin knows who Arya is??? Or does he simply suspect she is of a more noble birth than she is leading on?
