It depends, if they bring certain characters from the book and actually make them part of the show. One character who comes to mind, who tops everyone, and who won't show up(if he does) until much later is Qyburn.
was really confused about the stannis/renly situation and had to search the web on davos, melisandre and the seven. what i missed is, what were the doing that cave anyway?
    See previous post.
or what was davos thinking they were doing?
He had no idea. Stannis just told him to take Melisandre underground, and keep his month shut.

although renly is more likable, i understand stannis his disappointment with cat stark. i wonder why the stark´s haven´t had a more diplomatic approach ala let´s win this war and settle the claim for the throne later.
Because the Starks don't give a dam who sits on the Iron Throne, they don't want it. The Starks just want the North and to keep to themselves. If the southerns want to kill each other for the iron throne, they could careless.
but all lady stark does is calling their behaviour childish, which certainly won´t make them reconsider.
Cat already know by this time she wouldn't get either one to join forces with each other or Rob. Her only hope at this point was to remind them that they are brothers, and not to kill each other.
also, does robb has a clear stand in this matter or is he just focused on winning his current battles and he isn´t giving it much thought?
Rob wanted an alliance with Renly and Stannis to bring down the Lannisters. After this, he pretty much was going to tell them I'm going home and I'm King of the North, what you do in the south doesn't matter to me.

tywin was great. what´s that brotherhood and why did they think the prisoners would know about them?
The Brotherhood without Banners is a group of men led by Lord Dondarrion, who Ned sent out to capture the Mountain. Now that Ned is dead, they are Robin Hood like outlaws, fighting against mostly Lannister men.

And that's another situation where magic is going to be pretty significant in the future, depending how much they focus on Lord Beric and his becoming a folk hero spoilers:
who just can't die because of his Red Priest ally until he gives the kiss of life to Catelyn after the Red Wedding
    end of spoilers.

Without being really spoilery, after all it's just a name: Qyburn does show up pretty early in the books. He's in book 2 and might even appear in the current series if the rewrites didn't cut him out. He's in the entourage of someone who has been cast to appear this season.

i didn't mind the combination of the melisandre scene but i think they should have clarified the torture scene for those that haven't read the books. even a little quick mention for those that can actually remember who's who

I think the Brotherhood is supposed to be an unexplained mystery for now. They can't give a reminder, because the show never mentioned them before, unless I missed that. So, all the Dondarrion stuff seems like spoilers to me.

I'm really surprised Christians haven't come out against this show. Between the prostitution, out of wedlock smoke monster/Demon Babies, Cersei's need to "keep it in the family", A gay king... I'm shocked HBO hasn't been set on fire.

Is there a nice website somewhere that acts a guide to who is who? Little portraits of each character, preferrably in family/allegiance groupings, etc...?

So what was that thing Joffrey the Fake King made Ros beat the other prostitute with after the belt?

I know with the phallic shape of the scepter you'd think there was a crueler way to send her back to Tyrion, but they (surprisingly) didn't go that way. Beating the other girl with the stag/antler end of the scepter will hopefully be the extent of Joffrey's message.

I think there are three legit claims: Danerys, if you accept the Targarians as the valid displaced ruling family; Stannis, if you accept that the rule of succession falls to the next brother if their are no *official* offspring; and Gendry (plus an entity that has presence in the books but not in the series as yet), if unofficial offspring/bastards count. Joffrey, the Lannisters, et al can only make claim by force (much like Robert did). And Renly . . . well, that's kind of moot, considering.

fair enough...but I think, and this is just from the books that the line of succession goes children first, then family

but Dany IMO has just as legit a claim
