Because what's she going to do while he's watching the show?
And then he can't talk about it because she will get upset, it's bad news, i've been there.

By the way, i had to resist the urge to make several jokes after what's she going to do, so, never let it be said i lack tact.

What bothered me about that scene was not so much the boys death. But the whole scenario that he's completely helpless and at the mercy of Joffrey Baratheon because of his station in life. Yes Joffrey is the kings son. But even if Joffrey had just been a lord he could have still treated the boy the same way and gotten away with it.

Well, that's the thing about lords and ladies and knights isn't it? Back in the day, if a titled person wanted to treat a peasant like shit for any "slight", or for trying to jump the social ladder, he was well within his rights to do as the Hound did. The not so pleasant reality of knights in shining armour.

Yes, but not entirely. Though we never really see it practiced, Robert Baratheon (via Jon Arryn) was supposedly even-handed regardless of station. This shows up in background color in dealings with merchants and religious types. The foreground plots and scenes tend to be a different matter.

However, that particular scene wasn't really intended to be representative of class superiority so much as to reinforce the notion that there's something rotten at the top (Cersei and Joffrey via the Hound). It's more of a plot device (like the death of the wolf, Lady) to make the audience despise Cersei and Joffrey more.

With regards to the death of the Direwolf-

It was handled with much more gravity and grief because of what it represents thematically. Ultimately, the murder of the butcher's boy was just a sidenote to show what a dick Joffrey is, and the various sexual situations are just the flavor of the world.

But the direwolves are tied to the fate of those children in the same way the dragon eggs are tied to Daenyris. They are more than pets or just the sigil of the house, and as the series goes on this becomes more important. the wolves are portents, and they are metaphorically more important than just about anything onscreen to date.

(sorry if this has already been pointed out)

    Oh heavens. Seriously.

The humane putting down of a pet is SO TAME compared to scenes in the future.

    Personally, on that note:

    spoilers:
I cannot wait to see how they handle Viserys' final scene. Gotta go with semi-off-camera for that. Or, for that matter, Sansa confronting the "spikes" atop the wall at King's Landing, and in fact the remainder of that scene . . .
    end of spoilers

    EDITED: Addendum

And just to show you how twisted I am, I was/am more upset about Nymeria than I am Lady. Even in the books, sort of.

What i'm looking forward to seeing, if the series lasts long enough, is the red wedding and it's aftermath

What are you talking about. he Butcher's son was chased down and killed by the men. Not the loose dire wolf. Did I miss another death?

The Hound is a nickname for Sandor Clegane who killed the butcher's son.

Hell, I even expect people to stop watching because of lack of action through long stretches of intrigue.
But to stop watching over a fictional wolf that's had all of 3 minutes of screen time being killed is a new one on me.
Especially given that it was killed off-screen.

As to your other points - This is not TV. It's HBO.
Besides, A Song Of Ice And Fire is far from a PG-13 kind of fantasy. If some people haven't realized that yet, they're watching the wrong kind of show.

Excellent series so far. We can't expect all the "fine print" from the book (the dreams, for one) to find a place in 10 episodes - that's nearly 100 pages per episode!

Which might be the explanation why there are some changes with Daenerys' wedding night - the way she and khal Drogo evolve as a couple will probably be shown in a shorthand kind of way compared to the books. It's normal with the time constraints the show has to deal with. Same with the other storylines.

    *shudder*

I don't know who it's going to be worse for...the folks who have read the books or the ones who haven't...

    Wink

If we´re gonna be politically correct about the damn thing, we´ll be here all week, I´m sure everyone can find grievances if they search hard enough
    .I mean...

The only black people here so far are a couple women having doggystyle sex in a wedding parade
    Or
Do I detect a Tolkien vibe with the asian/middle-eastern/brown people again being setup as the evil attackers/invaders?
    Or
The evil bitch prince is somewhat effeminate, is this some sort of snide at gay people?
    Or
They went with Snider´s running zombies instead of Romero´s wobbling zombies.
