    Default Songbird Appreciation

Melissa Gold was a troubled runaway who turned intro a wrestler and a villain and formed a romantic relationship with Angar, the Screamer. But he got killed in a bank robbery and she screamed in sorrow until her vocal chords got burned. Then, Baron Zemo offered her the chance of participate in a plan to conquer the world while posing as heroes. Melissa accepted and she became Songbird. Little by little, the once villain, turned into a respectable hero, and one of the most interesting Marvel characters.

Let's talk about Songbird here, and what you expect for Melissa in the Heroic Age.

One of my favorite characters,A heroine created with a interesting & compelling Backstory that doesn't rely on her being sexually assuallted to be "deep" and very cool visual power set, A full bodied functional costume and a kick-ass attitude

With this being the year for the Woman of Marvel, I expect a solo series or a mini in the works

I appreciate that Bendis hasn't gotten his grubby mits on her yet and tarnished her.

I appreciate the 12 issues Ellis had to work with her.

    I appreciate her hair.

Yes, but Songbird isn't Deadpool, he actually cares for her teammates and relatives. Except when they're crazed assassins.

Diamondback's hair tastes like cotton floss.
    Songbird's tastes like strawberry.

I believe its from that oneshot Thunderbolts special. Each character got their one shot before the kill songbird arc.

What they should have showed is that hot picture of her against the wall waiting for Radioactive man.......Jeez that was a good one!

Love me some songbird and hope she takes over the Thunderbolts and make it an actual great redemption team for villains. She seems very good at converting people to the good side.

    Thumbs up

AMAZING idea for a thread! Songbird is my favourite Thunderbolt, after Karla and Zemo! Her character arc is one of the best in Marvel, in my opinion. Songbird IS a hero born!!!

And it's a few heroines who isn't a female version of a male character.

And I hope too, Songbird centered stories usually are great. Maybe she will be in one of the Avengers titles and they didn't want do spoil.

Ellis run was great, but my favorite Songbird story still is the serach for Hawkeye one.

My favorite TBolt was Fixer until the silent issue. That story showed how great Songbird is.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

While Songbird is one of the most interesting and awesome female characters that Marvel has, she was never born to be a hero. It's a role that she's very much grown into ever since becoming a Thunderbolt. The evolution from two-bit supervillain with a wrestling motif to the kickass character that we know and love today is one of the main points that makes her such a great character.

And while I would love to see Melissa on an Avengers team I don't want her to be on the coming New Avengers book. Because Bendis is writing it and I don't trust him to write her.

See, I would hands down defend her being a hero born. That doesn't mean she necessarily started out heroically (she didn't, obviously), but it was clearly in her blood. Of the original Thunderbolts Melissa and Abe definitely broke free of their past, and became true heroes... BUT Abe still accepted Baron Strucker's money, which Melissa knew in her heart was wrong. AND when Hawkeye fired the arrow at Cyclone, it was Melissa who caught it. Melissa had to become a hero the hard way AND when she worked under Osborn, she retained her sense of what is right, when other heroes became corrupted (Ares, Sentry, Karla, Andreas). I think because she came to heroism the hard way, she "earned" it more than the people who had it thrust upon them and then just went with the ride.

What I love about the difference between Melissa and Blizzard [Donnie Gill]. Is they are so similar BUT at the end of the day, I don't think Donnie is meant to be hero (or a super, at all); but Melissa is. If that makes sense?

While I do agree that Bendis "could" end up wasting her as nothing but back-ground candy IF she was on the New Avengers team, I'd still rather her finally be an Avenger under Bendis, than not be an Avenger at all.

After reading the preview of the next issue of Thunderbolts, I don't feel so bad about ignoring the book. Maybe I'll return to read it again when the same day digital comics hits.

    Yeah, I don't blame you.
It seems like time travel hopping is going to be fluff until the Classic T-bolts vs. New T-bolts.
