One of the nicest, smartest, most hard-working and stunning mutants in the World was Laynia Petrovna, otherwise known as Darkstar. Primarily a member of The Winter Guard, Russia’s premier team of superheroes, she spent years and years defending the Motherland from invasions, attacks, and evildoers. She would later help the Avengers and the X-Men on several occasions, before her sad and untimely death within the pages of Grant Morrison’s ‘New X-Men’ series. Gunned down by Anglo-French assassin Fantomex who mistakenly believed she was possessed by a Government-sponsored monster, she was buried in Pere LaChaise Cemetary.
This thread is a place where we can gather to mourn Laynia’s passing, as a caring community of fans who love and miss her very very much. It is a cruel and unforgiving world we live in, and although the circumstances leading to her murder were tragic, let’s take heart in the fact that she spent several years under the noble pen of Bill Mantlo, after being created by the incomparable Tony Isabella. We accept her death as a part of the continual tapestry which makes up the Marvel Universe. Laynia Petrovna may be gone, but her legacy will live on forevermore.
RIP Darkstar.
(And RIP Darkstar II)
((And may Vanguard’s vengeance be brutal))
