No offense to the OP, who is obviously new here, but I hate it when people keep introducing new threads on this topic, which we've gone round and round on in the past. People's opinions are very divided and this always ends in a flame war and me having to close the thread.

Sorry, I diddn't mean to start anything. I just genuinely enjoy reading what everyone has to say regardless of if it's a negative or posative comment about the subject. I would hope that these things are taken more in a context of a debate than just upright arguing. But even then I love hearing everyones take on my favorite subject.

It's not a parody. It is at least partly a satire (as is practically everything Miller writes) and obviously deliberately so.

It's also fantastic.

It's always nice to see a writer at least trying to do something a bit different, a bit more personal.

But hey, as usual 30% of people are going to say that's awesome, 30% that's the worst crap ever and 30% that's average. (and 10% don't care)

The art is very pretty, but I couldn't stick with it particularly when we started to get issues six months to a year late. Yes, you read that correctly.

At first it was billed as mainly being about Robin's journey, and I could almost see it in the first three issues or so: this is Batman without a Robin, and a Batman without a Robin is a real bastard. Then the lateness and his portrayals of Wonder Woman and Black Canary were just so weird and offputting I stopped bothering.

it's not a parody. It wasn't publicized as a parody at first. At least Schumaker had the balls to admit he made Batman and Robin like that because he liked it (which he didn't, he said that because it'd look cowardly at the time to blame the studio). Miller after more and more bad reviews? "ITS A PARODY WTF IS SO HARD TO SEE ABOUT THAT?!"

Heh. Sounds like William Shatner and The Transformed Man.

As for Schumacher, did he even like the character of Batman? He always looked embarrassed talking about any of his Bats movies, IMO.

Maybe he thinks input from others may place ASBAR in a context he might have missed when he read it himself?

I really like Millers approach to All-Star, since it is in the DKR and DKSA universe I can see how this Batman becomes the old bitter man he is in those. The main reason I like this though because it is more realistic, if a man dressed up as a Bat hed have to be crazy, and the fact that this Batman is more violent is a plus as well because even though it works in the other books in the world Miller creates I dont think standard Batman would cut it so

thats the problem. instead of using an "official" version of Batman, miller always creates his own

I did end up getting issues 1-10 and really enjoyed them. Brucey was a bit of an ass but thats what gives the series its personality really.

Other than the title and that someone at DC intends to publish it at some point in the future, no news.
