There a good ideas that go badly, bad ideas that tun out good, and there is We are the Word 25, a well-meant bad idea that sadly, turned out horrible.

Using the voice modulator thingee took the new version from cute if silly to really, really lame.

At least the original group could all SING.

    Even Dan Akroyd.

It's not as bad as "Do They Know It's Christmas", but it is horribly smug and overproduced. At least when Bob Geldorf said "Give us the fucking money!" you believed he really cared.

Well, it certainly was well-meant. 25 years on, and on the heels of a huge humanitarian catastrophe.

But I am genuinely stunned at a lot of decisions that were made along the way.

Is there an option I can tick for "All of it"?

Yes, I don't know why, but I was very surprised by how completely terrible it is.

That is why I made it a poll where you can choose as many options as you like.

I thought it was awful. Justin Bieber and Wyclef's "singing" are tied as the worst offenses. Another I would have added was the blatant use of autotune on almost everyone.

The only two I thought who came off well were Jennifer Hudson and Pink.

I voted for everything, because it was front to back awful.

I missed this when it originally aired, but it seemed like everyone on the internet was panning this, so I went to catch it on Youtube. It started out "ok" and I thought everything was just overblown, but then it just continued with a bunch of auto-tune junk and a ridiculous rapping segment in the middle of the song that just killed it.

Just goes to show that talented people occassionally producing trash isn't limited to the comic medium.

I would put my $10 in a Haiti Fund for people who never want to hear that We Are the World song again.

I voter "other" because their biggest mistake was inviting Kanye West and Jamie Foxx to begin with.
