Default Iron Man: leader of the new era of Avengers?

I have never seen Superhero Squad cartoon, but what surprise me is this:

    http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=24793

But I love playing Iron Man. He's kind of a cool guy. He doesn't raise his voice very often. He's just kind of there with his mustache and his playboy apartment. He's playing it cool. Captain America is always shouting, even when he's having polite conversation. Iron Man is played a little bit straighter on the show, as he should be. He's the leader, the commander, and the voice of reason. He's the guy that has to keep this ragtag bunch of unruly weirdoes and disparate personalities like Wolverine, Reptil and Hulk in line. He's kind of the parent.
Then you have the upcoming new Avengers cartoon who has Iron Man also as the leader, not Captain America. Mind you, these shows are made for kids & teens, so older guys who are not brought up in a non-destructive Iron Man might get revolted to this prospect.

A new era has dawned - and some of you might not like it?

With the two movies ( one to be released ) He's just the most visible Avenger right now.

There's a thin lined difference between the animated Iron Man in Superhero Squad and the one in the regular comics....it's because the former was made for kids while the latter was more for the older fans.

I'll admit I'm used to Cap being in charge, so seeing anyone else (even Iron Man) when Cap is right there is always a bit odd to me.

That said, the cartoons are obviously different from the comics, with their own internal continuity. There's no reason in the world Iron Man can't be leader.

I'd feel differently if we were talking about the 616 comics.

Too bad for Cap though. If he's not the leader of the team, he's kind of just a guy in a flag suit. It's sad that it sort of limits him a bit.

I also feel bad for Cap. Without the Avengers, Iron Man can survive. I don't see the same with Cap, who's more a mission based character. But in the Marvel Universe, Iron Man is the leader. Functional leader, not just some moral guidance. When the Illuminati phase has become more universal, then you'll see why Iron Man is that leader.

When I said I felt bad for Cap, I was just talking about in the cartoons.

In the comics it's different.. Cap is the greatest hero on the planet. Villains have flat out said so. He's fine without the Avengers. He's the inspiration for the entire generation of heroes... there will always be something for him in the MU.

This cartoon is how it should always be: Cap with a stick up his ass ranting idiotically and Iron Man making the cool, logical, intelligent decisions.

Cap is still an inspiration to all heroes, but Tony is the one who can substitute the need for Nick Fury for strategic decision.

I actually see Steve not being CA and not being an avenger leader (or a regular avenger at all). He would just have to look somewhere else for a mission in life, so to speak. He has being more often than not portrayed as someone concerned with the people, and there is a lot of people in bad situations to much much worst in the US and outside, one doesn't need to look much hard to find a mission in regards to helping others. If he thinks USA has its icon on Bucky-CA and the Avengers are there to protect them, he may not feel like wearing the flag always and do something else, and still be great while doing it.
