Wow. That's some praise. And maybe spoilery.

No! Don't validate the man's work with sales! Be strong, don't give in!
Yes, this would be third strike for Captain Loeb. But isn't third strike where you go out?
That sounded a tad weird. Not for dinner or a show or anything... I just won't buy New Ultimates.
And I'm in the pro-Adams camp. It's nice work.
The book was a piece of crap, nice art though (the standard Loeb critique)
The kid is Wolverine's son. Kitty Pryde shows up and gives him this box that contains a hologram of Wolverine speaking to him, saying that he gave the kid up so he could have a normal life or whatever. The kid thinks its cool that Wolverine is his dad, and he grows bone claws that he later spontaneously coats with metal. Neither him or Kitty know how he did that. Then the Hudsons, his adoptive parents show up and Loeb tries to be sentimental, but fails like normal. It's basically the Superman origin. The kid thinks he's different and his parents eventually reveal to him the truth, except the truth is a giant cliche.
There, now no one has any reason to buy the book. You can thank me later.
Thanks, man. No sarcasm. I appreciate you saving me money so I don't have to give another penny to that hack or his reviewers he buys off.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
So...this was unexpected.
I've had to go over it twice to make sure the feelings I had from the first read were legitimate. If you hid the writer's name on the cover and just showed who the artist was, I'd have no idea this was a Loeb book.
It really is surprisingly good. I mean it's pretty good stuff.
The characterization that is missing from sooooooooooo many of his books...isn't missing here. You learn everything about the kid in the preview, his parents are very interesting characters, the situation that is presented to him by a familiar face is pretty interesting as well. It sorta reminds of Ultimate X #1, but at a slower pace.
Is there some decompression? Sure, but it's filled with characterization, it's a nice shift from the way Loeb has been writing books.
Also, the New Ultimates preview in the back isn't terrible either.
LOl...Yeah I got that, but that doesn't mean that his mutation is completely identical to Wolverine's. Even Daken in 616 has some differences to his powers. And Ultimate Wolverine had his bones covered with Adamantium by Weapon X...they didn't magically cover themselves...and if Loeb changes Wolvie's origin to fit that possibility then I will have lost all hope for the Ulimate U.
Now Loeb will spend the next thirty issues teasing us with enough red herrings that he can make Wolvie Junior into anyone he wants.
Because that's how Loeb writes EVERY COMIC HE HAS WRITTEN IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS.
Wait I...liked this? What the hell? I can't stand anything from Loeb and haven't bought any of his work since the first issue of Ultimates 3...but Art Adams' stuff is really nice, so I decided to take a chance since this was a pretty small week and purchase Ultimate X.
And wow, color me surprised. i actually really enjoyed most of everything that was going on here. The only thing I didn't like was how Jimmy's claws suddenly became metal, but this issue has placed enough trust in Loeb from me to at least warrant me an explanation eventually.
Really looking forward to following this book.
