I have to admit to being a bit of a Radical fan, having picked up most of their titles (except Shrapnel!!) but these are great. The more I see of the Legends book just blows me away! Percival is a name to watch.![]()
My thing with Radical, Avatar and companies like that is: the pricing isn't competitive. $3.99, $4.99? Look...Marvel can get away with pricing like this because Marvel's hardcore fans are locked into their characters and aren't going anywhere. They don't know anything about Radical.
Yeah the art is fantastic, and I'm interested in Aladdin, but only in trade with that cover price on the single. And even then, with all the trades on my buy list it doesn't have high priority unless I can get a good price.
i will take advantage of that one dollar Legends issue though![]()
Marvel made 3.99$ a standart. If you make your prices lower then regular customer will think that your product is inferior and thats the reason why it`s cheaper. My thing with Radical, Avatar and companies like that is: the pricing isn't competitive. $3.99, $4.99? Such things are happening in other markets so i think it might be the case here too. Not everyone has enough time to find out the reasons why Marvel increased prices, even some posters here refuse to believe them.
You're absolutely right. I did think about this point too. People do the same thing with lots of stuff, including clothes. They'll buy $80 jeans and pass up the $20 jeans, because the expensive jeans have the name brand....but I did it myself, so I can't talk.
Anyway, yes, some people will view the lower pricetag as representative of a crap product. But with the catalogue of characters Marvel and DC own it's tough to pull customers away anyway, and a lower price is a lower price. If someone is buying a ton of mainstream stuff, and wants to drop a book anyway, I think it's easier to pick up the cheaper book - if it looks good.
What up god?
Thanks for the page count. I didn't see that in the preview and I wasn't gonna go searching. Five dollars for sixty-four pages of that art is well worth it, but seeing their books on the counter in my LCS, they are all still priced at $3.99 for only 32 pgs. or less. This book is the only exception I've seen.

I don't think the cheaper price tag means an inferior product when you're talking about comics - you only have to look through the comic to see if the content is quality or not -unless the paper and printing aren't good - it's not hard to check out.
I got my Legends today for $1.00 and the content was awesome -high quality fully painted art (some of the best I've seen in comcis) and a great story for a buck. I know it's a preview but you can't go wrong at that price but yes, collecting comics is not a cheap hobby if you get a ton of titles.
And what if i also care for the writing? That would mean that i`d have to read whole issue.I don't think the cheaper price tag means an inferior product when you're talking about comics - you only have to look through the comic to see if the content is quality or not -unless the paper and printing aren't good - it's not hard to check out.

my first Radical book was The Last Days of American Crime which came out last month, and it too was $5 for 64 pages of goodness.
What was even cooler is the fact that the adds were relegated to the back of the book so it feels like a graphic novel.
Those adds n the back were also touting the 64pgs for $5/more for ur money blah blah, so it seems this may be a new strategy of theirs to grab some readers.
smoke em if you got em
I'll pass up DC or Marvel comics at $3.99 any day because chances are it's not worth it.
But I read both FVZA and Last Days and I've YET to feel as though I was not receiving my moneys worth.
Those two alone are (IMHO) two of the best books out there right now. Don't let the price point get in your way. It's well worth it.

Hi TwinPistols, I'm wondering what books you are talking about. All of Radical's comics that are 32 pages or less have retailed for $2.99 or less. The first issue of City of Dust was $3.99 but it was a 48 page comic.
Pricing is very important for Radical. That is why our first books debuted at $1.00 and we have continued to not charge the same prices as Marvel or DC. When we switched to the 56 pages or larger format, we changed the price to $4.99 since you'd get at least double the story pages while only slightly increasing the price. This is why we call the new format "Bigger Books! Bigger Value!". All of our older miniseries prior to this format change have retailed for $2.99 or less (Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising #1 was 48 pages for $1.99!) with the above mentioned exception of the 48 page City of Dust #1.
To answer regarding trade prices, a paperback that collects a minseries retails for $14.95, a great deal considering our trades of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Caliber: First Canon of Justice, City of Dust and Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising are all 144 pages or more. In fact the Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising trade is 184 pages.

Back when Marvels were 75 cents, plenty of good indies were as much as $2.00. Mainstream comics used to be the cheapest, with the fewest pages, most ads, and lowest quality materials being used.

Hey Gianluca!!
The book I was talking about is from Hercules: The Knives of Kush. The problem here is I was mistaken. Yes, that book is $2.99. No, I don't know what I'm talking about...
Why did I misremember?...I have no idea. Possibly because I saw City of Dust and a number of comics that weren't Radical's with the $3.99 price tag. but, I can't be sure.
Anyway...my bad!!!
Sorry about that one guy!

Btw, I went to the LCS last wednesday and I didn't see any of the comics mentioned in this preview. Did they ship on time? Any info on this would be appreciated.
