Default Long Live the Legion! *SPOILERS*

As if it's any big surprise, I've become totally enamored with the Legion, and am tracking down tons of their back issues, so I'm creating this thread for all of you LEGIONNAIRES out there to have a thread to talk about the awesomeness of LEGION. Like, who's your fave, least fave, fave artist, fave story etc. etc.

I loved Superman & The Legion Of Super-Heroes. It was the first time I read about them and I was really impressed.

i love the legion. but one thing i could never stand was the lack of minorities.. there were more aliens from other galaxies. and worst part is that one of the only minority character from the original legion was tyrok.. wow he looked bad.

but still even with that said i still love the legion and almost all the characters and reboots.

the show was awesome too and didnt get enough credit

I don't want to sound racist at all here....

But does out concept of minorities in the 20th century really apply a thousand years from now? The LoSH is made up of aliens from across the galaxy. They're white, black, yellow, green, blue, orange, made of stone, have pink spots, don't have legs, have wings, are snakes... I just don't see how not having more present day minorities hurts things.

But then I would go on to mention that there have been plenty of present day minorities in the Legion of Super-Heroes in some versions. Some versions of Starman are black, Shrinking Violet always appeared asian-esque to me, two different Kid Quantums were black, so was Computo and Catspaw, Dragonmage was also Asian and I feel like there are a few more I'm forgetting.

I just don't think that any complaints about minorities being left out are valid when it comes to the Legion.

I would like to add that I love all versions of the Legion, but would say I am most familiar with the 5 year gap legion, in which the 4 characters above appeared.

i was referring to the original legion and the legion that is currently getting the spotlight. the other reboots were much better and you completely forgot XS.

it was a product of the time i know. but it still annoys the hell outa me. im really curious to see what happens with the legion and this issue. with 2 ongoing you gotta assume it gets brought up eventually.

You're right that I focused my post on more modern versions of the Legion. But, like I said, they come in lots of colors and I'm not sure that what we consider minorities today would be considered minorities in a thousand years.

And I did forget about XS. I wish someone were here to smack me in the back of the head.

dude it doesnt matter if theyre considered minorities 1000 years from now. im commenting on the complete lack of any non white humans in those stories. read the link i put in my last post about Tyrok.

That wasn't so much a creative choice as an editorial choice which was a product of the social climate from back in the day. Shooter had intended on making Ferro Lad black, but his editors wouldn't let him because they said they would lose distribution in the south.

There is no bad Legion. I haven't liked the gradual change in Brainiac 5 to anti-social nerd punching above his weight that has emerged over the last 30 years. Reading the early stories he's extremely confident, tough physically and mentally. He is sarcastic as hell to his team but there is nothing but affection there.

But what about other comics? It's not like there's an over-abundance of black characters in comics. Sure, it's getting better, but it's all relative I guess.

Anyway, what are some of your favorite Legion stories/issues? I'm still relatively new, and the only stuff I have to go by thus far is Superman & the Legion and the 3boot version (which I LOVE, btw). And I know about the Great Darkness Saga, but I'd like to hear about some other good stories. What attracts you to this team?

well my favorite arc was the superman and the legion arc with gary frank and geoff johns. that was gold. the costume redesigns were really wonderful. i also liked the cartoon which u should watch if you can find it. i think the 2nd legion (AKA archie legion AKA DnA legion) was lots of fun. a good thing to come from the 90's tho in a 90s kinda way that made you hate it. the 90's gave us good product by erasing good product. case in point kyle rayner
now that i look back at it, it was really cool. worst legionair no doubt for me is bouncing boy. fav legionair is lightning lad and cosmic boy. brianiac is lots of fun too and my favorite one is the cyborge one from the 2nd legion. XS was great and of course bart allen. but the whole allen family history kinda gets muddied up in that legion so if youre a flash fan dont bother trying to keep up. im still kinda novice myself on the legion but i have yet to read something and regret it. waids legion i think is the weakest but still good stuff.
seems like you are working your way backwards which is what i did. so far my favorite over all is the 2nd series but the current take on the original is the one im most interested in since it was brought back. so far its golden and im sure it will quickly take place as my fav legion.

I just started becoming familiar with the Legion in the last year or so, and while I haven't read anything I didn't like I have to say I'm a bit partial to the post Zero Hour stuff; I liked the tight continuity between the 2 titles.
