The Bad Seed -classic psychological thriller, ahead of its time

Ministry of Fear - not Fritz Lang's best film, but interesting because it seems to be Lang doing his version of Hitchcock's 39 Steps

The Illusionist. Or L'Illusionniste. Either way, beautifully animated. Great small story.

    Made

Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau are great together. I really wish they'd do more movies like Made and Swingers.

I've seen parts of the The Player and would like to watch it all the way through. I have Gosford Park on DVD; it's very good.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller is one that I want to check out.

I havent seen that one but have been tempted a few times to pick it up on DVD. It comes in a 4 pack with the Wild Bunch, Jeremiah Johnson (those two I already own though) and the Train Robbers for like $12US.

    Black Swan.
    Scutter.

Ok, it wasn't completely scutter, I liked parts of it. I liked when Mila Kunlis and Natalis Portman were in scenes together.

Is it just me, or is it a trend in Aronofsky movies where the incredible music overwhelms the film? I have that track at home somewhere on my Itunes. Powerful.

I also enjoyed the Portman/Kunis scenes where they were together the most

Re-watched Night of the Hunter last night after the NCAA Title game as I needed something a little more dramatic and exciting than that snoozefest. The kids are just amazing in this film and the direction by fellow actor Charles Laughton is incredible, Mitchum is at the top of his game and the use of shadow(s) has rarely been done as well...perhaps Orson Welles is the only one that comes to mind that topped this. The chase and the resulting horror seemed almost cartoonish at times, but somehow it works so well. The preacher is bigger than life and the material - the subtlety of it all from the understood but never shown brutal violence to the sexual repression and crooked psyche, using religion to make it even more powerful...it's so brilliant. A all time classic. One of the greatest villains ever on film and top performances in general from the coolest cat of them all, Bob Mitchum. Let's see...there is but a small list of actors that could have portrayed the greatest villain ever on film...and twice! Mitchum for this and Cape Fear...plus probably Daniel Day Lewis and maybe Bob Deniro depending on how we label a "villain." It's an elite group anyways. In closing and to reiterate: Mitchum rules!

Great choice. Night of the Hunter is classic, just watched it recently myself.

It amazes me that Charles Laughton got away with never directing another film again after such a classic as Night of the Hunter.

Just great noir shadowing, and the story just had this great fairy tale quality to it. Apparently, Laughton drew heavily upon his love of silent films in directing Night of the Hunter.

    Vengance

by Johnnie To with french Johnny Halliday in the lead. A film very much inspired by La Samourai. As usual very cool, strong visuals, minimalistic style. But acting wise it was not his best and the ending was a bit weird, weak. Still he took a simple revenge story and made it fun. The final gun fight was very very good without John Woo/Chow Yun-Fat moves.

A must for Melville/La Samourai fans.
    Pull List:
    The Walking Dead,Fatale,Near Death,Storm Dogs,Happy,BPRD,XO-Manowar
    American Vampire,Animal Man,Swamp Thing
    Daredevil, Winter Soldier,Indestructible Hulk
