Watched Zombie Land and Whip It today. Both were really good, in different ways. I loved in Whip It the fact that Drew Berrymore, who directed in it and played a minor (but memorable) role was not afraid to make herself look foolish. I also finally saw the Simpson's Movie, and I have to say I was a little disapointed.

Oh yeah, two of my favourite and somewhat overlooked movies from last year. Loved them both.

Oh I also saw Valentines Day. It's like Love Actually but, ya know, with all the good actors, good script and funny jokes taken out. It was, in short, really really horrible and an absolute must miss.

Picked up the 20th Anniversary Edition of Beetlejuice for cheap at Walmart.

Hard to believe that it's been nearly a quarter of a century since its release as it's still just as funny and bizzare viewing it in 2010 as it was in the late 80's.

The DVD doesn't have many extras but they did manage to add on three episodes from the cartoon.

The short lived animated series chronicles the misadventures of Beetlejuice and Lydia who are, despite what happens in the film, best friends.

Slim extras or no the DVD was a decent purchase for $5. A fun, underrated movie from my childhood.

What do you think of it after all these years?

Still the best ever comic book movie for me.

    Whip It.

It was very enjoyable not as good as Pages other hit, Juno that film had a better supporting cast imo (Junos dad and Mother, and the eternally funny Jason Bateman) but it was still great.

And a star in the making has to be Alia Shawkat as Pash she is a terrific actress.

i watched "The Cat returns". I think it is a nice movie, but little bit too short. It could have needed some extra time for the character development of Haru imo. Still i like the characters a lot, a ghibli movie worth seeing.

I was sick yesterday, stopped at a Redbox and rented Planet Hulk and Inglourious Basterds.

Planet Hulk was decent, good voice acting, animation was pretty good.

Inglorious Basterds was really good. Tarantino is usually hit or miss for me, but this was a definite hit. Pacing, dialog, atmosphere..all on target.

    Near Dark.
Not bad, some really great moments and some bad ones. I didn't really like the cure idea they used, and I didn't like how he was turned after a two second bite (no exchange of blood feels weird now too, but it works in some films). Bigelow's direction was decent, clear that she was bound to improve after that.
And Lance Henriksen is always awesome.

    The Road

An incredibly bleak film. So bleak in fact that it took me a while to get into the film but, ultimately, I do think that in the end, it had enough heart and humanity to make it more than worthwhile. The cinematography was incredible too.

    Having a 'comedy' kick...

    The Invention of Lying

Wow. Only watch this if you have a healthy sense of humour regarding religion. Quite a lot of laugh out loud funny bits, but could have been funnier. Also, the way truth was sometimes represented as a lack of impulse control doesn't really make sense, but still funny.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People

Not sure what I was expecting from this, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think it's because the trailers make the Simon Pegg character out to be a complete dick, but really he's the best character in the film. It's very anti-celebrity culture which I enjoyed. :) Also nice to see Gillian Anderson in something post-X-Files.
