Hall Pass - Sucked. I thought there was one true laugh out loud joke, but it wasn't until the very end. Jenna Fischer tanned so much she looked orange.

Ironclad - I enjoyed it. It's a dirt simple siege story, but damn the sword scenes are blood, Paul Giammati is great as a petulant King John, Bryan Cox is solid as always in a supporting role. The highlight is James "Marc Antony from Rome" Purefoy absolutely wrecking shit with a two-handed great sword.

Your Highness - 'Twas OK. Some good laughs, but no nothing particularly memorable, save for for a glimpse Natalie Portman's arse in a thong. She deserved another Oscar for that, indeed.

I watched The Raid: Redemption last week. It was fricking awesome. No nonsense fighting, just the most efficient way to take out the opponents. There's this scene where Rama, the hero, literally knifed his way through a bunch of guys with awesome knife play. It's bloody, violent and exceptionally cool. One complaints though, I've seen Gareth Evans ( the director) previous work "Merantau", where he also team up with the star of this movie( Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian). The final fight in The Raid is not as cool as the one in Merantau

But as overall action goes, this is right from the top shelf.

"legion" was on television last night, watched most of that. it was pretty bad but i remembered it from the previews and had a passing interest. the two parts i remembered most from the previews (the old lady and the ice cream guy) weren't really much beyond what the previews showed. the ending kind of left things open for a sequel... was there one?
    and i'm counting 1, counting 2, counting 3...

    Rumble Fish -
Coppola goes artsy and the results are kinda cool. It is a strange teenage gangland picture, loaded with metaphors and awesome black & white cinematography. Cast is excellent. Matt Dillon leads as "Rusty James," Dennis Hopper, Nic Cage, Chris Penn, Diane Lane, Larry Fishburne and a tremendous role for Mickey Rourke at the height of his powers. The Motorcycle Boy Reigns! Check it out.

    Bob Roberts -
Tim Robbins writes, directs and stars in this mockumentary about a conservative senatorial candidate slash folk singer. He is Bob Dylan and McCarthy rolled in to one. Great concept, strong supporting cast...mildly entertaining flik. Probably more stinging in early 90s when it was released, before wide cultural shift to political cynicism - Colbert , etc.

They are much more than Oldboy. I have been waiting for the DVD for I saw the Devil from 2010-2011 for long time.
It was indeed awesome. I've decided to remember the directors and actors I enjoyed the most, and look up more of their films. I was impressed by Go Soo and Lee Je-Hoon in 'The Front Line'.

I should also say I'm quite fond of Lee Byunghun, who played Storm Shadow in GI Joe. I saw him in 'A Bittersweet Life' and 'The Good, The Bad, and The Weird'. Tough-as-nails action hero/villain/anti-hero.

Wow, Adam, do you have an interest in Indonesian cinema, or just these action movies? The Raid will be playing at a local theater near me, at another little film festival in fact, just next week. Maybe I'll go and see it.
They're also going to air some Japanese and Chinese cinema, plus another Indonesian queer-flick (among other international movies), so now that Cinemasia has given me a taste, I want more! There are two anime films I want to see: 'A Letter To Momo', by Okiura Hiroyuki, and 'Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below', by Shinkai Makoto.

Lee Byung-Ho is my fav Korean actor along with Kang-Ho Song of Thirs,Memoirs of Murder, The Host, Sympathy for Mr.Vengance.

I saw The Devil i watched few days ago and it was brutual and intense film. One of the most hardcore roles Lee Byung-Ho has done. The director is great director of A Bittersweet Life, A Tale of Two Sisters, the good, the bad and the weird.

hahaha, I'm a born and bred Indonesian, and I used to learn pencak silat too in my youth :), so this movie is kind of heaven sent for me. I've watched kungfu, muay thai, capoeira and the likes got international recognition from movies, and longing the same kind of recognition for silat. So happy that Gareth Evans finally show how good this martial art can be. The story is not so much but the action sequence, the hand to hand combat is fantastic. If you can stomach the gore and the violence, then you should definitely watch it.

Btw, I've been hearing good things about Lovely Man, and was delighted that the main actor (Donny Damara) got the best actor award in Asian Movie Festival. Too bad it's very difficult to watch it here.

I saw The Devil (2011) - a brutal South Korean thriller about a man avening on the serial killer who killed his wife. He puts a tracker on the killer to find him every day and beat him, torture him before he kills him. Its like an answer to Park-Wook's revenge trilogy. This is anti-revenge film. A really good film if not the director best, it made me feel sick to my stomach because it was brutal, dark in a real way

watched "moneyball" last night. it was okay. i wasn't paying attention to mlb at the time, didn't know most of the story (including the bits about my hometown cleveland). it was kind of weird to see a movie with actors set in the past when the past wasn't that long ago, too. but it was an okay story and a mostly decent film overall.

Inkubus (2011) - Inkubus tells the story of a skeleton crew working the final shift at a soon to be demolished police station. The night takes a gruesome turn when the demon, Inkubus, (Robert Englund) calmly walks into the station holding the severed head of a murdered girl. Why? Inkubus has a score to settle with the one detective (William Forsythe) that almost put him away some thirteen years ago.
A generic horror movie which is nothing special.

Creature (2011) - In the back country of Louisiana, a group of friends unearth a terrible secret that unleashes a monster from the depths of the swamp.
    Same as above.

Flypaper (2011) - A man (Patrick Dempsey) caught in the middle of two simultaneous robberies at the same bank desperately tries to protect the teller (Ashley Judd) with whom he's secretly in love.
This is a good who dunnit mystery. Good performances from all.

Drive (2011) - A mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbour.
    Was entertaining.

ooo... that's sounds 'killer'! the South Korean directors are a breed apart for sure. and i'm so jealous of CJ going to see all those flicks @ Cinemasian. If you go and i don't hear about it from you next yr so i can make it, say goodbye to your comics! I'll give them to a coffee shop so the customers can have even better and weirder experiences...

    9. Secrets, Objects (South Korea), an erotic drama about the tension between a university professor and her young assistent, narrated by a photocopier and a digital camera.

i'd like to be the aforementioned objects, please!

saw WRATH of the TITANS last night. obviously, an enjoyable epic. worth seeing in the theater, period! no i wish i'd seen CLASH---- on the big screen as well, but i had to settle for DVD. it was still tres cool.
