Not the best by Kurosawa but it was very good in that it was more social, satire of a story. The two greedy farmers chasing gold the whole film was hilarious.
George Lucas drew heavily from this film to make..Star Wars. R2D2 and C3P0 are based on characters from this classic Kurosawa film. Plus the princess, etc.

Heh they match exactly now that i think about it.

I wonder how much Lucas actually borrowed for inspiration. There are novels, films and so on.

About Kurosawa next i plan to watch his films with contemporary setting like Stray Dog,the others.

    Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Virtually unparalleled eyecandy. But man, the script needed some real work.

(still the best thing Seth MacFarlane's ever been involved with, though)

Me three (or four) on this sentiment. Way too much time spent on using IM2 as a glorified trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie, imo. I would have preferred a tighter focus on Stark and his main issues (his health, his relationships w/ Rhodey and Pepper, and the twin threats of Hammer and Vanko). Cut out both Jackson's mugging as 'Samuel L. Fury' and Johansson's Black Widow (who, despite filling out her costume nicely, was a non-character who just took up space), tighten up the meandering script, and beef up the threats of both Vanko and Hammer (the latter was basically just comic relief) and you'd have a movie closer to the level of the first Iron Man flick, imo.

I saw Resident Evil: Afterlife yesterday and i enjoyed it. 3D visuals was not hype this time, it was pretty cool looking. I just wish they didnt overdo the slow motion action scenes.

It was pretty good action, horror. The most impressive action wise in the series so far plus it had several scenes, characters direct from the last two Resident Evil games that made me smile of as old fan of the series.

Overall i enjoy this series mostly because Alice is like The Last Action Heroine, a dying breed. Resident Evil 5 is one of few sequals i look forward to.

I don't really quite know why it is that Zoolander makes me laugh as hard as it does, but I really do consider it one of the best comedies in the last ten years.

Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jerry Stiller and a very funny Will Ferrel have never been better than they are in this very silly, very funny look at the cut throat world of high fashion.

Also, the best gasoline fight in film history.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths rewatched this again. I ordered a copy to give at Christmas ($6 from Amazon). Very chilling tale. More enjoyable because of the back story (was originally a script between JL and JLU) and the surprise that Mary Marvel was the stand in for evil Wonder Woman...

TCM yesterday had a tribute to the late Tony Curtis.
I was able to watch The Defiant Ones (brilliant film..still holds up today), Sweet Smell of Success (if you want to see Burt Lancaster as a truly bad guy, I recommend this one), and Trapeze (eh..so so. Only watched it for Carol Reed's direction mainly)

Thumbs up Hadn't watched anything in ages

just spent the weekend watching a ton of great films on DVD. New ones-
    "Four Lions" by Chris Morris,
"exit thru the gift shop" by Banksy (were the absolute best though, the first two I watched and never outshone), & I went on to watch Soderbergh's "The Informant!", "The Special Relationship"(Blair's first crush, b4 he found true love in the arms of his master!), written by Peter Morgan, not so new ones -
    "Kick Ass", &
"Wanted",I waited a long time because I had more or less boycotted them for fear of having two of my favourite graphic novels destroyed, inthe end both were OK, but "Kick Ass" was miles better than "Wanted",
Billie August's"Goodbye Bafana", and a couple of oldies:
    "Scarface" by Howrd Hawks, and
    "Shock corridor" by Sam Fuller.
So, a pretty good selection, no outright stinkers, although if "Wanted" had been the only one I may not have enjoyed it, the quality of the others must have rubbed off on it somehow. I love letting good films build up, until I can watch them all in one lazy weekend!
