There is no simple, uncomplicated Great Britain. The imperialist velvet fist, reduced to a shining visage of blonde-haired idealism? No thanks. That's a little too overt, keep the protector of Albion masked and ambiguous.

And since when is Black Knight wearing American-made Levis an upgrade?

He probably paid way too much for used Levis. Their probably Silvertab's to boot.

British Empire doesn't exist any more, don'cherknow; there's a Commonwealth, membership of which is voluntary and has had additions to its now 54 nations as recently as 2009. So what kind of imperialism are we talking about here? German? Dutch? French? Spanish? (Those cuddly conquistadors , eh? That wacky Inquisition!) Portugese? American?

There's more than one kind of imperialism, and more countries than Britain with a tendency to stick its flag where it don't belong, even these days.

An image originally worked up by an American creative team, it should be noted. And "everybody thinks he's got the same accent as them", so his physical appearance doesn't matter; Brian represents.

Too right. American jeans (the cloth for which originally came from France) for Americans only! Not these foreign characters like Dane Whitm... oh, wait a minute...

People tend to forget that Dane's an American expatriate.

    Wow. Xenophobic, much.

Somebody needs to set you straight on a number of cultural issues there.

'Imperial Velvet Fist?' a) There is no British Empire. Hasn't been in a long long time. We have a Commonwealth, a collection of former colonies, long since self-governed, who still share ties. But that is all. Queen Elizabeth II remains a figurehead, but the Monarchy hasn't directly ruled any country for a very very long time.

    b) This bizarre image that you, and a worrying number of posters on here, seem to have of Britain as some kind of hard totalitarian state is utterly incorrect. Britain is every bit as democratic as America, and a handful of other major countries across the globe. Your lack of knowledge here is genuinely disturbing.

'a shining visage of blond-haired idealism?' Brian has blond hair? So what? Is this supposed to link him with some kind of Nazi Master Race image? Brian Braddock, in this dimension, is anything but. The guy was even a pacifist for a couple of years in the 90s - much to the chagrin of the rest of Excalibur... :)

An idealist? Yes. A guy who always tries to do the right thing, and achieve the best outcome with the least collateral damage. That's what a here is SUPPOSED to do. He's not perfect. His flaw is that his power levels are directly linked to his confidence. There is actual physical synergy between every Captain Britain and the people of their world. If a Captain dies his people suddenly find themselves feeling the loss. We've seen it before.

It's also kinda his Achilles heel. What if those people turned on him? How powerful would he be if his confidence was shot and Britain stopped believing in him?

All things which aren't really explored enough in comics, right now.

Well, Dane IS American. Not sure why he shouldn't wear American jeans.

It's not an 'upgrade' it was Dane deliberately out of costume. Yes, he put armour back on in certain stories, like when he and Faiza went to collect the Ebony Blade from Wakanda, but it showed us that even out of costume Dane still carries the Sword and Helmet, ready for action.

Indeed.America acts far more Imperialist than most Nations these days. A little worrying at times.

Another strange part of that synergy. Scientifically applied Magic in action. A notion I note the Marvel Movies are pretty hot on these days, too.

I demand the return of Wolverine's brown costume and Rick Jones omnipresent red greaser jacket that he continued to wear well into the 70's.

I miss the webs under spidey's armpits. If they are going to force him to go back to his small eyes, then I want the armpit webs too!

Doesn't help that the anatomy is more then a little bit off. Look at his calf muscles, one is about twice as large as the other.
