The Confession should have been about Emma telling Scott about Butter Rum. I would have loved to see his face. She has a nightmare and wakes him up from her cries. He asks her what's wrong...

Never Forgive. Never Forget. Justice for Butter Rum. ♥
Emma Frost Week: Winner of Best Emma Frost Avatar
You have gone Butter Rum crazy.
Utopia and Confession was such a disappointment. I loved Dark Reign and the Dark Avengers. And finally it was a crossover with the Avengers... except Bendis wasn't writing it... meaning it was just more Uncanny with Avengers guest starring. Then the Confession, based of the killer CW one shot, ended up being even worse with terrible art.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

As I recall Cyclops was only told a short while before the Dark X-Men thing started. See the scene in Exodus where Beast storms into their bedroom and starts ranting. The Confession happens after he leaves.
I don't think it was stated anywhere before this that Cyclops was in the know, even if it was implied during the crossover itself.
Remember Cyclops went to go and check out the Dark X-Men and told everyone to study them? While they were working together I don't think he knew everything about the plan. He was just covering all bases. He didn't tell Emma what to do she was improvising the entire time.
See how much Fraction loves Cyclops and Emma?

Sorry, I misremembered it… I still think Emma's confessions of her old HFC days, of trying to drive Laura away and of killing her evil sister were unnecessary. Scott knew those things very well I guess. I also didn't know why Scott kept the X-Force thing a secret to her. Perhaps he just tried to keep Emma away from the danger or was, as he said in Warsong, "I love you but I don't trust you."(Btw we now know that Scott does trust Emma, but after seeing his leaving when she needed his help urgently, I doubt he loves Emma that much.

That idea he had with Emma and Scott doing that "this kind of 'freestyle'" plan was great. It shows how well the characters can work together, and how well they trust each other. That's why a lot of what's happening in AvX doesn't entirely sit right with me. I remember being really nervous about this and at one of the comic-cons someone asked Fraction about this and Fraction responded roughly "are they playing games with each other or are they playing games with you?" And I thought, "okay, there is a deeper angle." And that's why I'm thinking it may be okay for Emma at the end of this. There may be some hidden angle we haven't seen. The whole "prepare little spirit" may become very important, and of course, there are other characters that can die anyways.
I liked the Confession issue. I thought it was something they needed to do as characters.
Cyclops left Emma when she needed help... that's crazy! And Jason Aaron was giving the interview as though it was Emma's fault "Cyclops is struggling but he's staying true." Wha?! I think they have to fight cause Marvel wants to sell books... and get the Emma/Scott fan-base riled up! I hope it all works out for characters. I just can't see Marvel throwing Emma down like that. Basically turning her into a murderer (and this time, not of broccoli people) and then just killing her. Let's see what happens...
The confession did not need to happen. That's why people hated it. It wasn't necessary. And all it did was make Scott and Emma (But especially Emma) look like dopey sappy emo teenagers who just want to be loved.
and also, Emma was a muderer way before this event and we were told the guy isn't dead, so they haven't really done anything, nothing's actually changed yet.

On the first part-- I like stuff like that from time to time! Even with Emma Scott. I enjoy seeing the friction in their relationship-- like in AXM by Whedon, when Emma tells Scott that he doesn't have any claws, and I liked how in Torn, Cyclops was taking Emma to task when they were flying around Breakworld. But I also like the sappy stuff like Confession and when Cyclops and Emma took that savage land vacation. If you want to take my Emma Frost fan-club card away from me... you'll have to find me first!
Emma's killed before, and she'd probably do it again if need be. Sometimes that's murdering, sometimes she made the right decision. I love Emma but Thor was in his rights to try and kill Emma in AvX VS 4. What's awesome for Emma is that she beat the crap out of Thor and didn't kill-- she didn't even send him to limbo to be tortured. I was actually a bit miffed at Emma's casual willingness to make General Ross cut his own throat in Avengers 28. I don't really see Emma like that. But it is true that Ross came to kill both Emma and Cyclops... Aaron said the guy isn't "dead" well, he's made a needless distinction there, just like Aaron thought it would be a good way to close up a fault line.
There's a great difference from Emma and Scott snuggling in bed and enjoying the torture of innocent dinosours together and them having a heartfelt talk about things they didn't really have to discuss with each other. Emma lobotomized him once to save his life for God's sake, there should've been a trust in their actions between them at that point. They should've left what was going on with Dark X-Men stand on its own, they didn't need to ruin it by adding a supposed backstory to it.
And is the freaking Rulk. The guy was willing to total Utopia and Atlantis during their first fight in AvX 1, I think Emma's casual willingness as you put it is more than justified within her character. Hell, I think anyone should be willing to kill the Rulk, the guy's horrible.
My point is Emma hasn't done anything that offensive yet. Issue 10 might change that, but so far it could still go either way.
I don't see how Emma can not want to go through a character change, if only because of the trauma she's been through. I think the writers will need to deal that. So I agree. But so much of this was the Phoenix, I don't see how it was entirely her fault. And not to dig at you, but I'd like to know-- would you actually post in a few issues (after Emma's character change) "she's finally becoming more of a hero" or "she's becoming a [morally] good person as a result of AvX"? I think people who don't like her would see this all as being "selfish" and therefore not worthy of any type of praise.
I like Emma just the way she is. I don't think I like Phoenix possessed Emma! She went a bit crazy! Deep down I think she's a good person who has a major flaw in that making these types of bad decisions comes very easily for her. That shouldn't change. I like the tension she brings to comics. I like that she's willing to kill (as being distinct from murder).
It depends how everything turns out for her if she survives. If she does, then it'll be dependent where she is placed. If with Storm I can see an interesting dynamic of Emma, Storm, Psylocke, Domino, and whoever fills in Pitor shoes. Possibly Lorna
This will probably go into fruition if they have emma's character go into some hiding and it'll be interesting see if she goes on some reassess quest for herself and have someone like STorm be the character that puts emma back on track, be her little spiritual consort/up lifter.
