I wouldn't say she was necessarily the best option, but yes she could (and still can) certainly lead under some circumstances.
But I don't expect this to happen during or after Second Coming. Most likely Scott will still be in charge unless Marvel decides to really stir things up.
I said the end of Whedon's run, their dynamic started changing quite a bit after Torn. Combine this with what Brubaker did in his run (e.g. Scott saying he will change things) and the result is basically Fraction's Emma.
I think Emma leading would be kind of nice if not for the fact that there are still more than a few people in the island who doesn't really like her very much.

Mmm...Just imagine the things Emma would inherit from Scott...
When Emma killed Adrienne she took possession of her estate, which just happened to include a small island, which she sold in her fluffy white robe.
So, what does Scott have: A hanger full of flying jet-cars, experimental X-Planes that have more functions then the entire vehicles the Thunderbirds used, and he even happens to have one of Mags old Asteroid M's. think of the money she could make bu selling that!!!
And As I said earlier, the X-Men could just pack up their gear and people and just chill on the Peak with Henry and Abby!
Her oral cavity is OMEGA LEVEL. -Chase_Stein
Emma and Scott need to double date with Storm and her hubby. Nothing less than royal meals and dining accomidations are good enough for Ems.
Yes, the actual plots Fraction has done with Emma hasn't really been bad I think. Some changes in the dialogue (e.g. sympathizing with Colossus without being quite so cheesy about it) and the art (no goofy grins at the wrong times) would go a long way to improve things.
My point was that Scott and Emma's current positions really are a logical consequence from where Whedon and Brubaker left them.
He totally turned her into sidekick, but I see what you are saying.
And for plot points... Well the Russian hoes coming to the school thing was terrible. And going to Utopia, espeically so close after the move to San Fran, is pretty bad too. And I hate Cyclops and his Army concept, but I'm thinking/hoping it blows up in his face.
