So it looks like the rotten apple didn't fall far from the tree as far as scams goes. But then, when you have branches as rotten as Rick's that tends to make sense. The only useful aspect of him as a tree is mulch and compost, and he does plenty of that as a human.
By the way, I've also been curious as to who runs that Torrential Spirit blog?
Is that an actual friend of Rick's, or just more unabashed mocking of him for our delight?
THIS BLOG SITE apparently reviews all sorts of "at home" businesses and such, and apparently finds that for the most part Ambit Energy is above-board. But from what I can make out about it, it seems to me that there might also be opportunists taking advantage of it.
Angie, how can you doubt that the Torriential Spirit blog is done by a dear friend of Ricky's? The blogger presents such a handsome and credible face to the world!![]()

Yeah, Multi-level marketing gigs are for idiots and the deluded, but they are usually legal, so I wouldn't call it a 'scam' until there's evidence.
But they rarely pay off for anyone except the people who started it.
Black Canary owns your world.
I use the word "scam" loosely in that regard. It's more like the booths of (to me) useless stuff you see thrown together in the building at the county fair or the flea market. Usually with the annoying guy chopping something up in such a way that's supposed to AMAZE you!
Right, exactly. It's a waste of money but it's legal.

It is possible to make money in multi-level marketing, if you are a very smart, very driven, very gregarious and outgoing person who is willing to work very hard and isn't afraid to push hard for the sale.
The people most likely to sign up for an MLM program are not these people.
Having said that, the general rule of thumb with MLM is, if it's more profitable to sign people up to be vendors than to actually sell any product, it's not a good bet. Very few people are able to successfully convince friends and co-workers to sign up, and very few of those who do are the type to generate a lot of sales. At some point, somebody has to sell the product or the whole thing collapses.
I've known a lot of people who have been in Amway, for example. The only ones who ever made any money at it focused entirely on selling the soap and never spent any time at all drawing charts full of circles and triangles to explain how much money can be made by becoming a distributor.
Ambit seems to check out, mostly due to the fact that they have to abide by public utility laws in the states they serve.

I learned a long time ago that I am not temperamentally suited for any MLM programs; I'm not willing to badger my friends, and I hate to "go for the close" as they say in sales.
Maybe this Chris Olney can make a go if it. If The Defendant were to try it, the fail would be epic.
Holy bejebus, James Owen gave me the first print, of only twenty,of one of the most astounding pieces of comics art I have ever seen.
My mind is still blown.
WOW.

By the way, another one of those prints will be up for bid in the annual CAPS auction in Los Angeles at the end of August.
50% of the proceeds go to CAPS (Cartoon Art Professional Society) and the other 50% will be divided between Russ Heath and Ralph Reese, two legendary artists in need of some assistance.
Any artists wishing to donate an original piece or print to the auction should email me at jim@jimmacq.com for details. Anyone wishing to attend the auction and spend a lot of money on some pretty sweet art (it's August 25 in North Hollywood) should likewise email me for details.
Aw, shucks, Gail. ;)
