I am one person, just one bookseller on our staff. I may be singularly the most efficient bookseller, the most adept and most adaptable but I am only one. No-one else in the store can cover the entire salesfloor by themselves, answer multiple phones, complete online reservations, assist customers with adult and children's selections, all without missing a beat. Do NOT tell me to cover information when I'm walking out of children's to help a customer who walked up to info for help cuz there was no-one left on the floor to cover children's. I may move fast enough to look like multiple employees, but realize it's just me. It usually is.
Also realize that I've been volunteering for two on-call shifts a week for a reason: I can't afford to raise this family on two days a week. Oh, I see it now:
that my giving you a weeks notice;
laboring over your related homework with you for 3 days before;
making it an open book/open notes test;
providing you an actual written explanation of how to do each problem to use during the test (because I didn't trust you to know where to look it up);
allowing you to use your calculator (also with my instructions on how to);
deleting 3 of the 10 problems;
waking you up the second day you had to do it;
and literally walking you through and giving you the answer to the first one;
that makes it my fault that you got a 64 (which incidentally was also a present from me to you).
Oh no, you're not dumb; you're just lazy. You're parents on the other hand, are fucking morons--because they actually believe your bullshit.
