That 10 minutes probably represents my longest, deepest exposure to "At the Mountains of Madness," actually. I'm pretty sure it's the only thing of Lovecraft's I haven't read. I gave it a shot as a kid & lasted only a few pages; did the same about 3 years ago with the same results. *sigh*

At the Mountains of Madness was the only HPL piece to be placed by a literary agent. He had a hard time selling it, but it was finally placed by literary agent...Julius Schwartz.

"Mountains" also was the cover story for the Feb 1936 Astounding Stories -- a distinction never accorded to him by Weird Tales while he was alive, shockingly enough. (The fact that, say, "Call of Cthulhu" or "Dunwich Horror" or "The Whisperer in Darkness" weren't considered cover-worthy makes me want to go lie down & hold my head. Even worse, "Shadow Over Innsmouth" was rejected by WT's editor, Farnsworth Wright.)

I finished the John Sandford novel "Stolen Prey" today.

I finished Tigers of the Sea by Robert Howard. Some serious kick a$$ viking stories in that book!

The Great Gatsby hits the movie theaters tomorrow (here in Portugal) so tonight I'm going to read the whole thing if I can.

The Green Eagle Score by Richard Stark. Parker #10 is easily the best one since "The Score". Parker plans to take down the payroll of an Air Force base. But amateurs always seem to cause problems.

Does all the four stories in the collection star Cormac Mac art? Are you a Howard fan or is this your first collection of him?

Yes they do, all four star Cormac fighting Picts and Pirates. There's also some sea battles in the middle. The last story is the only one with some sort of Supernatural element (and is also the shortest one) so if you're into that this might not be your best bet from Robert Howard from what I understand.

I read some of Conan's adaptations from Dark horse and one or two poems by REH, but this was actually my first collection by him. I wanted to start with this one since I really like pirate and sea based tales.
I really liked it though and it made me order the big Centenary Edition of The Complete Chronicles of Conan. I'm pretty excited about delving into this new world!
