Default Hypothetical "Earth One Aquaman" other EO titles

    http://www.newsarama.com/common/medi..._091221_didio1

So straight from Dan Didio's mouth, he has apparently been asked a lot about which other Earth One titles will be popping up, Wonder Woman, Flash...and Aquaman. (And he basically said if Batman and Superman sell well, we'll be getting the others)

What this gets me thinking about is that Aquaman obviously exists as a "super-failure" in popular culture yet he seems firmly ingrained as one of the core Justice League characters, even if most comic fans could care not one bit about what happens to Aquaman after he appears in the Justice League.

What this gets me thinking about Earth One is how all the odds and ends of the DC Universe history will or won't fit in.

Personally, I don't want there to be a JSA or otherwise too much prehistory in the the Earth One universe. Heroes, especially the lesser appreciated ones, always tend to be better when there isn't a community of superheroes at their back. It raises the stakes.

So what would you all like in the extended EO universe? Carter Hall or Katar Hol? A Green Lantern other than Hal Jordan?

Earth-1 should be based closely on the DCU of the silver age, or else a timeline derived directly from that base, like they have done with the current Earth-2. In fact, that would have been the right place to bring back Barry Allen, Ray Palmer and Hal Jordan. If there is going to be a Hawkman, it should be Katar Hol, not Carter Hall of golden age DC. But they could make those guys older, and have the silver age Teen Titans functioning as the current JLA of Earth-1.

I hope that if they do an Earth One Aquaman, that they cut away all the Atlantis stuff and make Arthur an individual.

I don't know how I'd feel about that. Would it be Morrison/Animal Man or Morrison JLA Aquaman, who was little more than wallpaper?

I think the Earth One graphic novels are completely separate from the Earth-1 Universe.

It's been mooted that the main reason why Aquaman enjoys only limited popularity (compared to other DCU superhero stalwarts) and has been the subject of ridicule for years is because of his apparently limited power set. Even if one doesn't find the concept of "he talks to fish" risible, it still is very limiting.

It's been either written or suggested that Aquaman's abilities should be vastly expanded so that he does not merely command marine life, but every molecule of water on Earth. If he were to become a living water elemental (or already has...not sure which it is), he'd potentially be one of the most powerful beings on Earth...right up there with the Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern-class heroes. You can imagine the intimidation projected by a guy who can casually command a tsunami to come crashing down you.

That'd be *way* better than "talks to fish."

i have to say that the only run of Aquaman that i liked was Busiek's run after Infinite Crisis. after he left the title, so did i. the art went from being sketchy and somewhat realistic to cartoony. and the writing was rubbish.

I agree that they should bring him back to his Golden Age roots for Earth One. No King of Atlantis stuff. He should be more of a superhero than royalty IMO. But that's just me.
