French seemed useless to this fight until now, but now Jilt was slower, plus her spinal cord was exposed.

    "GemBuster, flamethrower mode On"

Once Sub had thrown the shuriken (don't get in the way of your teammates), he ran as quickly as he could, and looking at the cord, tried to cut it with the Saber at the place where it was the less thick, hoping that this time she would feel it, before aiming his flamethrowing Buster on the exposed parts of Maple and letting it spit its flames.

OOC: Last week as inspection week at work so I had little to no free time. Apologies to all! Now, the story continueth.

"That's why we're stopping her from killing free people like that. I'm all for this being quick Sorez, and it could go a deal quicker with your help."
Sorez looked at Switch and looked decidedly non-plussed.

"The waystation?" he said, looking somewhat incredulous. "You think that thing feels like a person? It's just a doll, made to look human and provided telepathic conference calling and psionic data transfer. Heck, she's only in the Bastion because it's cheaper to imprison her here than create a separate storage for the hundreds of them that are seized in Fed raids every month. Jilt, on the other hand, is a sentient being, she's got a mind of her own and while she is a monster, I will not partake in murder like this,"

He looked at Switch again, clearly seeing something no more emotionally evocative than a broken computer.

"Seriously brother, call off your fellows before they kill her. Jilt is unpleasant, but she is useful. There is no sense in this wanton murder. Once we're off the Bastion - fine I'll give her a glorious explosive death myself but right now we cannot afford to fight amongst ourselves,"

As he spoke the screams of Jilt took on a different quality.

With one smooth motion, and the cold-blooded precision of a seasoned assassin, the shuriken slice through the air, and embed themselves into her exposed spinal cord.

The combination is a success. The shuriken lodge themselves in the gabs in her vertebrae, severing nerves and damaging her motor functions. Her limbs move in a more drunken fashion, her control over them highly limited. French compounds this effect, his blade mostly severing the spine, only the strongest muscles of her back holding it in place.

He douses her interior with flames, burning away nervous tissue and finally cutting off Jilt's connection to her limbs. Her body collapsed, still covered in the heaving mass of spiders and sludge. From the depths of the dark mass, the Knights could hear pained whimpering and sobbing as Jilt, broken in both mind and body, gibbered helplessly to herself. She felt nothing beyond pain and fear - paralysed, horribly wounded and being slowly devoured - she was out of the fight.

The Knights had a moment to relax. Mcgaffer however, could see Sorez' expression shifting from horror to a passionate rage at the brutality he had just witnessed.

The boy did not seem to approve of their actions.

Sub-Zero nods appreciatively towards Gemini's assist and says, "Good job, Mailed, Gemini. Now she won't be able to harm any more innocent people like Switch."

He flicks his wrist, and her blood flies from his blade to the ground. He returns it to its scabbard and turns to walk towards Sorez and Mcgaffer.

The combination of the attacks had worked, and Maple seemed now reduced to the level of a vegetable. Good, she wouldn't harm anyone anymore.

"Good job, Mailed, Gemini. Now she won't be able to harm any more innocent people like Switch."
Apparently, Sub felt the same way. For now, there was something more important to see. He ran towards Mcgaffer and Sorez. He turned towards his fellow Knight.

    "How is Switch?"

A quick glance at Sorez revealed the terrorist's rage. French leaned closer to Mcgaffer and whispered.

"Also, do you know what's his problem?"

Mcgaffer watched the conflicting emotions on Sorez's face and realized what was about to occur, Buggering hell he wearily thought as he reached into his pocket for more Blood Wyrm sand meaning to send Sorez to sleep.

He paused as FrenchGemini approached him and asked him about Switch and in a quieter voice Sorez, "Switch is sleeping at the moment but she's going to need some emergency treatment soon. Unless she has a cellular recovery system that I don't know about."

Mcgaffer's voice dropped to a low murmer "As for Sorez, he's a passionate young man who believes in the rights of all. His more then others. He's not happy about what just happened to Jilt and I believe he's about to let us know how unhappy he is."

Sorez's mad eyes blazed and the air crackled around him.

"Take those spiders off her now," he said, his voice taut with rage, "She's beaten, she's down and yet you continue to harm her. Take the spiders off her and leave her be or I will end you..."

He looked at Mcgaffer's face, his eyes showing a certain amount of hurt at the apparent betrayal.

"... even if we are similar,"

His hands shone as energy began to build up with them.

OOC: Yay, it started up again!
    IC:

As they ran along the passageways, Sol surveyed the wreckage left in the wake of Smash with some apprehension. From what he gathered, the immediate vicinity of this much destructive power wasn't the wisest position to be left in defenseless. Now would have been a good time for the guardsman armour; gauntlets wouldn't protect him from explosions.

So, point of order: hang back and snipe any escaping strays from a distance. A fine, perfectly safe plan, in theory.

Which, of course, meant that it had to go horribly wrong.

As Gunner and Beadle rushed into battle past the fallen prisoners, taking on entire groups of orange clad figures by their lonesome, Sol stood back and raised the gauntlet experimentally, seeking a suitable target.

There. One of the shapes in the crowd peeled off and charged straight at him. He was quickly followed by another. And another. Seeing a lone target standing near the exit, they sensed the perfect opportunity to gang up on, and overwhelm him, focusing their efforts into escaping through the apparently unguarded egress.

All in all, perhaps not the greatest tactical decision he had ever made.

    ............................................

The orange ninja dragged himself forward on his one remaining good arm, desperately trying to reach his shadow sword, which lay only a few feet away. Blood covered most his body, his face, and even his blonde hair. His breath came in ragged gasps as he pulled himself closer to the sword.

His fingers were five inches away from the hilt when a heavy boot crashed down on his hand, stopping it dead. He would have screamed, both in pain and frustration, had he only the breath to do so.

"The railgun works wonders, I must admit." came Sol's voice. "It's the most impressive of the three, wouldn't you agree?"

Sol looked past the prisoner and at the werepony, lying some way back. It was still breathing, but only barely. It was badly burnt from the lazer, which had burned a hole the size of a fist through it's shoulder, but the real damage was caused by the kinetic beam. Unlike the lazer, the kinetic beam actually had some stopping power. And a ridiculous recoil that made Sol wonder how anyone ever used it without getting blown away from the battle, and possibly dying.

"But I stabbed you." croaked a voice.

Sol looked down at the man. "It would seem to be a flesh wound, unfortunately. Better luck next time."

A roar of challenge behind him. Sol kicked the ninja's shadow sword out of his reach, the blade already dissolving from staying out of contact of the conjurer for an extended period of time, and turned around to face his new opponent.

    ..............................................

"So, I'd have to ask, instead of announcing your presence, why didn't you just stab me in the back like your friend over there did? Or chop my head off, whatever."

The steel skinned man stared at him in disbelief. His wrists, elbows and shoulders were all covered in three feet long blades. They clanged together as he spoke.

"But I...cut you in half. How can you still be alive?"

"Well, I suppose your accuracy is terrible, isn't it? You missed my vital organs."

The man looked alarmed. "What, all of them?"

Sol sighed. "Are you going to answer my question?"

"Strike at you from behind? Like a coward?" He spat the last word as if it were a curse.

"I...look..." Sol tried to come up with a reasonable response that wouldn't be treated in a similarly dismissive manner and failed. "...nevermind. Just forget about it." He pointed the gauntlet at the man. "Well, I'm sorry I had to break both your legs. Not as sorry as I am for having to do this though."

The blast caught the man square on the chest, the shock wave blasting him back into the midst of the battle. Sol didn't feel too bad about that. His bladed foe was tough enough to survive it. Probably.

More importantly, the recoil knocked him back a good twenty feet...and out of the path of a blast of energy that crackled through his prior location.

Still on his feet, he spun to face the last foe, gauntlets already pointed in towards the source of the blast.

    ...........................................

Somewhere, far, far away, someone thought: Why are there so many random time skip blackouts in this scene? Were they censored due to excessive violins, blood and gore? Did the writer just decide to skip these parts because he was lazy? What really happens during these moments? Did Sol use his new power? If not, will he ever use it?

The answers to these questions may never be known.

    ............................................

Sol stepped over the unconscious body of the last prisoner. The battlefield seemed to be clearing up. The Mysterious Mister Beadle had already dispatched his enemies, though something odd seemed to have occurred in that fight that Sol simply couldn't place..

Strolling up to Beadle, Sol asked: "Soooo...are we enjoying ourselves yet?"

An eye was kept out for any that needed his help, though having the chief Warden Smash on their side seemed to make that almost unnecessary.

Beadle and Sol then spotted the Chief Warden herself, beset by several rather unfriendly looking prisoners, some many times her diminutive size. However any concern the Knights may have had was unwarranted as they finally saw the true form of her power. The first prisoner, a large man with a gigantic metal fist forged of magnetic energy and guns, swung his fist at her.

    ---Bamboo---

The word was not shouted, nor spoken aloud in any way but it suddenly seemed to thrust itself onto the mind of all assembled in large green letters. The giant metal arm was suddenly pinioned by glowing green pillars of chi energy that resembled the plant name that had been called. Smash had shifted and apparently performed a movement to accompany this burst of life energy. She twisted swiftly and stabbed a spear hand at the man.

    ---Bramble---

Another burst of words stamped across the minds of those nearby. This time a construct of branch of thorns stabbed out and blasted apart the metal appendage. The man screamed as the psychic feedback of his pseudo-limb being ruptured tore across his psyche. Seeing their fellow's plight the other two prisoners leapt on the offensive, swing their fists.

    ---Reed---

Their fists seemed to strike her but Smash merely flowed with them, moving like a reed in a storm, bending and shifting with the force, not resisting. She spun in the air like a tiny pinwheel before seizing one of the attackers by his face.

    ---Flytrap---

The burly man was hurled away with a mere flick of her wrist, slamming into a nearby wall. The last attacker readied an energy blast, hoping to strike Smash while she was in mid-air - unable to effect a dodge.

    ---Lilypad---

A large green hammer of chi energy smashed down onto him, smashing a huge perfectly circular crater in the floor and knocking the fight out of him with ruthless efficiency.

Smash touched down onto the ground, landing as lightly as a leaf on the breeze. The whole encounter had not lasted longer than half a second.

Sorez stalked forward and looked at the mangled form of Jilt, checking that she did indeed live. Despite her hideous injuries, her iron constitution was keeping her alive. He gritted his teeth, the heavy yellow liquid of his power dripping off his fingers onto the floor causing loud cracks and smoking holes in the metallic stone.

    At last, he spoke.

"Give me the code," he said, his voice harder than before, "It is clear that you people are not like me and you have crippled by comrade. But, you helped me before and you," he looked at Mcgaffer, "You and I are of the same mind. Therefore, give me the code and I will let you all live and go in peace,"

Mcgaffer stared Sorez in the eyes for a long few seconds before slowly smiling and raising his hands to his hood. He was still weary from the last time he slipped into his Reaper form but a quick glance at Jilt told him it was the right thing to do. The hood slid over his head and Mcgaffer slipped into his Reaper form like he was pulling on an old glove.

There are not many beings who can look a Reaper in the eyes for long and Mcgaffer was hoping that perhaps he could scare some sense into Sorez, in the meantime he also had a little work to do. "I'm afraid I have a duty of care to attend to first boy. After I have adminstered, eh, mercy to Jilt, then we shall discuss matters." Mcgaffer's voice sounded like gravel falling on tombstones and it sent involuntary chill's down the spines of all who heard it. He had seen Jilt's life signs for himself but now glanced to his side to see Switch's.

Mcgaffer's sense reveal that Switch is ultimately stable but her body is still racked by stabbing pain and agony. Fortunately, she since she was currently unconscious she was not feeling this pain.

Sorez flinched at meeting Mcgaffer's eyes but the strength of his convictions steeled him against the fear of death incarnate.

"Give mercy?" he snapped, anger flaring in him, "You offer compassion to a brainless doll but want to finish off a sentient being that you have already crippled?! You sicken me!"

His hands started glow and the air was filled with a vast piercing humming sound. The ground near to Sorez's body began to churn and bubble as the temperature around him skyrocketed.

"I see you now, as you truly are," he said, "You are no brother of mine. You're not here to save us, nor are you men of honour. You are killers nothing more. This the final warning I will give you, hand over the code now or I will wipe you from the face of the Bastion!"

The Mysterious Mister Beadle himself was surprisingly relaxed about the situation, having despatched his assailants with such unsuspected ease. It had been most mysterious the way in which the Fanatic Four had been so vulnerable to The Mysterious Mister Beadle's power - almost as if they had been specifically designed to fall victim to his talents. Yet while this mystery was indeed of great interest, there were more pressing matters to attend to.

"You know, my friend," The Mysterious Mister Beadle replied to Sol, "I rather think I am." He smiled mysteriously towards his colleague and raised one eyebrow.

He then remembered the information-gathering mission he had charged the minions with, and briefly checked the contents of The Mysterious Pockets of Conjury, to see if any missives had been sent, before heading over to catch up with Chief Warden Smash.

((OOC: I know you'll let me know if I get anything, Nik, but I've got to keep checking.))

    *snip*

Smash touched down onto the ground, landing as lightly as a leaf on the breeze. The whole encounter had not lasted longer than half a second.
"Impressive!" thought The Mysterious Mister Beadle to himself, and then continued, his inner monologue taking on a surprisingly colloquial tone "I'd definitely rather fuck her than fight her."

He walked toward the Chief Warden, applauding her performance and smiling flirtatiously.

"I must say, marm," The Mysterious Mister Beadle, "I can see why your staff hold you in such high regard. It is indeed and honour to fight alongside you. But now I suggest we must commence the process of once more securing those prisoners we have subdued."

Sol glanced at the foes that mister Beadle had dispatched and once again, he sensed something strange at work.

"What's this Chinese garden doing here? Seems like an odd place for a garden."

"You know, my friend," The Mysterious Mister Beadle replied to Sol, "I rather think I am." He smiled mysteriously towards his colleague and raised one eyebrow.
"I agree. All the violins aside, it's been quite entertaining."

Sounds of battle drew their gaze back to the Chief Warden Smash, who, as far as Sol could tell, was a qi user, and a rather potent one at that. Sol watched her skillfully dispatch her foes with her qi techniques with no small amount of admiration.

Once they had approached her, Beadle suggested their next course of action.

"Shouldn't there be support teams or something to...rehabilitate the escapees, leaving us free to push on further inwards and deal with the most dangerous threats?"
