    Default Gimme some LOSH goodness!!!

I'm on a DC frenzy right now, and am in desperate need to get some good stories to read on this group! There's so many damn members and so many of them seem so fricking interesting from their wiki entries that I needs some good stories in which to get. I already have the Lightning saga, which to be frank, was kinda WTF??? as I had no idea who any of these people are, and then I also have the Action Comics story under Johns, but I also just bought the last series, but was told that it's not worth getting, so gimme gimme more LOSH to sink my greedy lil teeth into!!!!!!

P.S. Totally loving Triplicate Girl, Saturn Girl, Dream Girl, Princess Projecta, Cosmic Boy & Lightning Lad!!!!

There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.
I am a male. Deal with it.

Definitely get the Great Darkness Saga, Legion Lost, and the majority of Waid's run is pretty good (if you like Dream Girl, you'll like his first two trades).

The follow up to Superman and the Legion of Superheroes was Legion of 3 Worlds, so I would suggest getting that. They also had a back-up feature in Adventure Comics, but I wouldn't get that unless you are interested in Superboy aswell.

Actually, The Great Darkness Saga is a wonderful recommendation.

I'd probably get Legion of Three Worlds first, though.

The Showcase Presents LOSH volumes are pretty good provided you're willing to take into account the restrictions the creators worked under.

The Great darkness saga is the be alll and end all in comics to some people.

I love it. But it's not my favourite story of all time.
"You can't trust them as poets either. The true poet is anonymous, as to his habits, but these boys have to look, act, and apparently smell like poets"
    Flannery O'Connor on the beats.

It's wiki entry makes it seem to be very interesting. I think I'll pick up the trade. I wonder if Levitz can recapture the magic he had on the previous series?

Legion of 3 worlds is next on my list. Sigh. I can't wait til the last series gets here. I ordered the whole thing for $60. Was it worth it or did I pay too much? And is the art as marvelous as the scans I've seen for it?

He's probably referring to the Mort Weisenger era policy of actually asking kids what they wanted the heroes to do in any given issue. Some kid pipes up "I want to see Superman as an Indian chief," for example, and voila--for at least one issue, Superman will somehow become an Indian chief.

It made sense at the time--comics were much more for children during that era than they are now, after all--but looking at those stories today they seem more than a little quaint and dated. Still, if you want the background, the Showcases are the way to go.

"The Great Darkness Saga" is indeed better than candy-coated crack cocaine distributed by an orgasmatron machine. The only Darkseid-vs-the-Universe story worth reading. I'd also recommend the trade paperbacks "An Eye for An Eye," "The More Things Change" and any other trades from the Levitz era that get released (I'm really hoping they'll do a Magic Wars trade some day, because I never got to read it).

The Five Year Later era is well worth reading, but beware of two things: A) It's not available in trade form, and B) you'll read it and then most likely become very angry that editorial dictates made them end it prematurely. So much potential, pissed away....

If your looking for trades then go for "An Eye for an Eye" and "The More Things Change". These two collect issues 1-13 of volume 3 and fetures the classic Legion written by Levitz. You could also get Superman: The Man of Steel vol 4 which collects the "Death of Superboy" story from Legion of Super Heroes 37-38 (volume 3), Superman 8, and Action Comics 591.

I didn't know those issues of Legion volume 3 were collected anywhere. And this is relevant to me, because I never got a hold of a copy of 38, the one were Superboy actually dies!! I've lived with that cliffhanger and had the storyus interruptus blue balls for damn near 25 years!!!

Off to Amazon to purchase pronto. May even spring for rush shipping.
