    Default Thoughts on Ultimate Spider-Woman?

Title speaks for itself... wondering everyone's opinion on Ultimate Spider-Woman.

Personally, I like her. For someone who grew up reading 90s Spiderman, I loved Ben Reilly... despite all the convoluted and poorly executed Clone Sage plots. I like the idea of Peter having someone he can really relate to like a brother or sister. Peter's a very family-oriented character, both in 616 and Ultimate, and it made sense to me for him to have a sibling like that.

Whereas the 616 Ben Reilly had so much baggage with the Clone Saga, and the editors trying to have him replace Peter as the "true" Spiderman, I feel like J. Drew has a lot more to offer, and less baggage. As long as Bendis keeps Jessica as a separate Spiderwoman and handles the Pete/Jess well, I would be very happy for her to stick around.

Granted, I do think she's a little under-utilized at this point (a couple cameos I think), but we're still only in the first arc of UC:SM.

I two was a big fan of the Clone Saga back in the day, and I have to say, if they could start a good Ultimate Spider-Women comic, with a new group of charactors, I would happly read it.

She is more of a Spider-woman than the 616 version. I mean she actually wed slings and does spidey stuff. The 616 version is a great character but I just never could get the whole spider-woman name, she flies and shoots heat beams. I just learn to ignore it.

I enjoyed the Clone Saga of the 90s and Jess Drew in UU is pretty cool concept and costume.

What little we've seen so far of Ultimate Spider-Woman I have really enjoyed and I definitely like the potential of the character. Hopefully the character will get some more screen time soon though to become more established. The supporting cast of "USM" has become so big I'm afraid we won't get much of her there. "Ultimate Enemy" looks like it might provide her with more screen time, so that would be nice.

I'm surprised that Jessica has not moved into Aunt May's house yet

Next to Peter, Jessica is my favorite "Ultimatized" character. I think the potential for what could be done with her character deserves it own book. Even though I love Jessica as a hero and potential ally for Spider-man (the mirror punch of Doc Ock was classic) I think Bendis as set the foundations for a very cool anti-hero. Jessica tells Peter at the end of the Clone saga, "I'm gonna need money." Peter's reply is, "don't rob any banks," without thinking that she's left pretty much destitute and dealing with a pretty heavy identity crisis. I can't believe they didn't turn her into a Cat Woman / cat burglar type of character. She remembers being a hero, and having a family, friends, a girlfriend, a job, and a school, but now is suddenly left with no support structure. The reasoning and the ability to sneak into buildings and dodge security is pretty sound. But then, as with Ultimatum, when someone needs help the "Hero's Call" would convince her to do the selfless thing. This character gives a great way to explore and examine what keeps Peter Parker/Spider-man from reverting to his attitude before Ben died. It also had the potential for some great Gwen Stacy, bi-curious, fan service.

Oh well. Will be interesting to see what Bendis does with the character and if takes any chances.

Good Character but very poorly used. The Ending of the Clone Sage kinda left a strong impression of "Spin off hook" so I got to wonder why they never did a Spider-woman spin off, or at least a Mini-series. There was real potiental to tell a VERY interesting story. I mean you have a homeless lesbian Peter Parker, that alone would make the story extremely interesting. Anyways Ultimate Enemy looks promising for her and I hope she is well used.

I agree, great concept for a character but under used. I think Bendis could really take her and run with it.

I'd be great to follow her in a story and hear her inner monologue like you get with Peter. So many conflicting feelings to work with.

Yeah, I really hope Bendis starts using her more. That way he can start establishing her character better and explore the interesting territory she presents. Like the whole male mind trapped in the female body.

My biggest fear is that another writer, who for someone ungodly reason has been given keys to the Ultimate Universe, will get his hands on her visit before Bendis establishes her. Said writer shall remain nameless out of the fear he'll appear like Beetlejuice and swoop her away.

My fears are even more compounded after seeing how he "handled" the sexual relationship between Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Ultimates. It was something Millar hinted at tactfully but this writer just tossed out there for shock value. I would hate to see how he handled Ultimate Spider-Woman then.

Awesome! Issue 9. Hmmm, that must be for April? And there are 3 Ultimate Enemy books starting in January? Seems like a pretty seamless transition. Very cool!
