    Default Washout Appreciation

DISCLAIMER: This thread is not about me.

In honor of the greatest day of the year, I believe it is time that we honor one of the late, great X-heroes.

John Lopez, aka Washout, aka X-JLO, was created by Peter Milligan and Mike Allred during their amazing run on X-Force, but he was deemed too much of a big loser to join their squad.

Washout used to just be able to make things wet when he touched them (and don’t we all wish we had this ability?), but then he met Malcolm Colcord (who is really ugly). Colcord brought him to the Weapon X program where John’s powers were upgraded to super-awesome water powers. He was like the Hydro-man of the X-World. As a member of the Weapon X squad (See Frank Tieri’s Weapon X), he did some bad things, but he always wanted to be a hero like X-Force. His confidence grew, and he met Cable. Cable used him as a distraction to help Cable’s Underground break into the Weapon X compound. John began boiling Colcord’s blood, but he didn’t know that his new awesome powers were killing him, so he died. He was a washout, in name and in life, but according to Cable:

    “John Lopez died a hero.”

Oh, and Mr. Sinister took his remains, so hope is abound!

Necrosha is happening now, and this would have been the perfect opportunity for the X-writers to hop back on the X-JLO bandwagon, but alas, Chris Yost told me yesterday that he will not be appearing in Necrosha. I have hope that one day, the X-books’ Hydro-man will return to us in all his glory.

    Please discuss this aquatic wonder!

PS – this is a POSITIVE devotion thread, if you wish to be a hater, start your own “I hate Washout thread.”

    His death was sad.

I hate almost everything Tieri has written, but I got love for Washout. <3

If Sinister stole his DNA then a Washout should be among the next group of Marauders clones.

I know! That was the first issue of Weapon X I read. I picked it up for the Boom Boom cover, and I fell in love with him. I wish he would have appeared more and in a better title.

Another character Frank Tieri killed to remind us mutant death camps is serious bizness.

    Lame. Washout deserved better.

Really, how dare Tieri touch a Milligan/Allred character. Even a throwaway one. It's the principle.

He rocks pink sunglasses way better than valley girl characters from the late 80's/early 90's. Also, he looks pretty cool when he's dehydrated and his skin is flaking.

Boosting Washout's career was the only good thing Tieri did in that book.

Speaking of that book, the covers were outstanding. This one lights up my world.

Chris Yost trolled me and said he would appear in "Necrosha: The Return." Then he said there was no such title, and he would not be appearing.

Oh that would be awfully egotistical of me.

I have decided to bump this thread because Washout has recently become the talk of an X-Force thread.

When he and Maggott come back with Mr. Sinister, will the people rejoice? I doubt it, but I will. Should Vincente join the All New, All Different Marauders with them?
