Default CBR: STORMING HEAVEN: "Siege" #1

In "Siege" #1, Norman Osborn and Loki cried havoc and let slip the dogs of war upon the city of Asgard and it's residents, the Norse Gods. Writer Brian Michael Bendis joined us for a page by page commentary on the issue.

I LOVE that Bendis does these things. I understand why other writers don't because you almost don't need to buy the book when they give you a near page by page summary. But I guess they're confidence that Bendis stuff will sell.

I like these too, I wish more writers would do them.

Gotta say I loved Siege #1, can't wait for the rest of the series. Bendis, Coipel and Martin are killing it.

    Ditto.

It already has will continue to. Remember they did the same thing with SI and that series continued to be a best seller every month.

I think the "big death" in Siege #2 will be Ares.

I figure it has to be a character that is either prominently or tangibly featured at the start of the event, like Goliath was in Civil War.

Ares is featured prominently in three pages of the issue. Bendis said the lie Osborn tells him in his first scene is a major plot point. The only question, in my mind, is who takes him down and how.

Here's a possible scenario. Maybe Senrty loses his tenuous grip on sanity after he recovers from being bitch slapped by Thor and as the only one besides the other Asgardians who even stands a chance at subdoing much less defeating him, Ares tries to engage his compatriot and in doing so loses his life in the effort. Meh. I doubt it's Ares, though. Perhaps Norman?

I realize some people will probably jump down my throat for the quibble I'm about to bring up, but I have to say that I was disappointed in Tom Breevort and company's lack of editing skills with the grammatically incorrect title page and the repetition of dialogue in the back text pages. Minor concerns, perhaps, but at $3.99 a pop, I expect the product I pay for to be flawless.

All he did was just push the hype machine into the next gear. I believe in Bendis.

Because with his writing you need an explanation!

Seriously, sometimes with him you do. And that's not a good thing.

    That's a good choice.

Storywise he definately works. And because he's a god, it's actually fairly easy to bring him back if anyone really wants to.

For some of the things he does, a bit of explanation is helpful. In Secret Invasion for example, a lot was going on.

With Siege, not so much. At least not so far. It seems like a fairly simple and straight foreward series at least so far. I don't expect we'll necessarily need a good deal of commentary or explanation for this story, though it will be nice to have it anyways.

It's all going to line up very quickly. Matt and I are very good friends and have dinner often. So everything will line up. Since this this ships before "Captain America: Reborn" finishes and before the end of "Stark Disassembled," some might feel like I'm pushing or bullying Matt and Ed [Brubaker], and I'm absolutely not. Things will line up fantastically.
So he's not some evil genius! Who would have guessed?!?

I just hope Bullseye doesn't scream "NOT LIKE THIS!!" when he dies
