I honestly don't see what they see in the Sphinx. He just doesn't impress. I am enjoying the current arc though, especially with that Namorita reveal. But I really wouldn't like to see an extended conflict with the Sphinx or anything. After this, get Nova back to policing space. I'd like to see him touch base with the Guardians of the Galaxy. I'd also like to see him interact a little with the new power structures of the Kree and Shi'ar empires. I wonder how they feel about him incarcerating Ravenous and Xenith.

I think the big deal with the Sphinx is that he's probably the closet thing the character has to an arch enemy. He was Nova's biggest rogue, not that he had much of a rogues gallery.

It's the equivalent of the Master showing up in Dr. Who.

Well the Sphinx also had an influence in Richard Rider's life throughout the first half New Warriors Volume 1. Forever Yesterday. The Hero Killers. And the the war between him and Lady Sphinx(the one behind Forever Yesterday) the culminated in issue fifty of New Warriors. Also the guys that Shphinx have on his side, Bloodstone, Moonstone, Stargod ,and Basillisk. Are possessors/guardians of objects of signifigant power. Along with the Sphinx's Ka-Stone were revealed to be linked in some manner by Genis-Vell in Thunderbolts. Either issue 45, 46, I'm not too sure when.

Basilisk... the one Skurge victem I wish would come back. Looks like all of this guy's pawns are folks powered by 'stones' of some sort. Bloodstone (is that his name.. with the shotgun?) Moonstone, Basilisk, Darkhawk, Man Wolf. Very cool.

EDIT: A point 20 some odd minutes late, obviously didn't get down to The One and Only's post!

As Xpac stated, the Sphinx is Nova's arch enemy. In Nova's first series, the Sphinx kicked Nova's tale up and down the street, but Richard kept getting up. After Sphinx finished with Rich, who was battered, bruised, and on the ground, the Sphinx basically said Richard was not a boy, he was "the man called Nova." Yes, the Sphinx actually "named" the first Nova series.

And remember, the Sphinx went toe to toe with Galactus. That was a tremendous issue chronicled in the Fantastic Four. Rich has fought the Sphinx on a number of occassions. He defeated him once when he removed the KA stone from his head.

My hope is that one day the Sphinx returns to greatness in the annals of cosmic villains. I have complete faith in DnA in making him something great again.
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.

Maybe a better analogy should be found after the felchfest of the latest episodes of this.
Static Pulse: That's why I like you. You're like four degrees away from being a William Gibson protagonist.

The Sphinx should be Marvel's answer to the Riddler.

No, I'm kidding. I like the Sphinx fine.

Definitely looks like two Sphinxes, possibly from alternative timelines. IIRC there were two Sphinxes previously, but one was female, so is not the one shown here.

On a plus point it looks like Ullyses Bloodstone (the guy with long hair and the shot gun) is making an appreance. I loved the old monster hunter stories.

This looks fantastic - I love how DnA bring back such underused and under-appreciated characters and give them some time in the spotlight
