Here are some numbers from the BOOKSCAN reports as seen and explained by Brian Hibbs of Comics Experience.

I had hoped that these would show that although Wonder Woman trades and HCs only have a miniscule sales within the direct sales comic community, they have a much larger sales base. Unfortunately, that appears not to be the case.

Note that (I believe) the sales reported here are the numbers for PRE-return sales (i.e. orders), not POST-return sales (i.e. after returns have been factored in). From my personal experience as a writer, I can guarantee that a HUGE percentage of paperbacks experience returns, no matter whether the book is a best-seller or a poor seller. So, even though this shows a clearer picture of TPB and HC sales, it is not fully a complete one.

Also note that the BOOKSCAN reports ONLY show the Top 750 titles in any given year, so if the book didn't chart within that frame, it is not represented on the Excel report.

2009 - No Wonder Woman books charted in the top 750, meaning sales below 3,934.

2008 - No Wonder Woman books charted in the top 750, meaning sales below 4,293.

2007 - No Wonder Woman books charted in the top 750, meaning sales below 4,461.

Links for 2006-2003 are disabled, so I can't check there...

This does NOT mean that WW TPBS and HCs don't sell in bookstores, just that they don't sell in numbers high enough to reach the top 750, or the lowest sales numbers cited above. Since those lowest sales numbers are approximately twice what the Direct Market sales for WW TPBs and HCs are, that isn't necessarily a positive sign...

I undestand that you may not have all the data yet for 1987-92 and this is the era I am particularly interested in. I remember being an enthusiastic WW fan due to Perez' hard work as a writer and an artist. When he stopped drawing, I dropped the book--then regretted it and eventually bought every back issue from #25 -to about #45 when I began reading it again.

What I noticed from the letter's page back then is that other people (especially females) were equally dedicated, if not moreso. Do her sales figures reflect this? Were they mostly WW fans, Perez fans or fans of Perez' Wonder Woman?

Unfortunately, I don't have it — and won't — because DC stopped being forced to print Statements of Ownership in their books, and the SOOs are where the sales figures come from.

I do have Diamond and Capitol City catalogues from back then, and I will eventually tabulate some of the rankings from those, but it's gonna be a while.

Basically, what's on this thread are all the figures that are publicly accessible. Anything else would have to come from DC.

If WW sold out and is in a second printing, I assume this is not the final figure and the figures we will see, is that just orders? Do we have any idea how much DC did print of it originally?

Yes and no. If you look back at post #2, you'll see that it's the same sales amount as the 2007 Amazon Attacks cross-overs which were $2.99, and less than any of the issues of the Heinberg relaunch or the Picoult issues.

But it's a darn sight better than anything lately in Wonder-land, since Perez left the series.

That's not knocking anyone; the Jimenez, Rucka, and Simone runs have all been pretty consistently similar levels across the board, reflective not of the content, but of the rising cost and the financial depression the country is in.

Another $ 4.99 “milestone” issue, similar to Superman #700. The stories in this one include the end of the Gail Simone run, the start of the J. Michael Straczynski run and a few filler pieces. And sales were helped by a 1:25 variant and a 1:75 variant.

Again, that’s a great increase, but we’ll have to wait for the July chart to gauge retailers’ faith in J. Michael Straczynski’s ability to sell a lot of Wonder Woman comics.

We've gotten the sales figures on my first full Wonder Woman issue, and DC is very, very happy. Everyone was wondering how the first regular book would do, and we came in at 38. The regular book in the four months prior to the anniversary issue had come in at 71, 85, 78 and 82, respectively, so we've jumped 47 from the lowest point, or nearly halfway up top 100 rankings. We're off to a great start.
