Am I the only person who thinks this book looks like shit? I love Kirkman like no toher, but even my faith in his ability to tell a hell of a story can get me past the truly horrible mish-mosh of poorly dran 90's icons. I wanted the era of "pretty looking" trash to end, not be celebrated in a in mini-series....

Can't say if you're the only one, but I for one really enjoyed the art in issue 1. I think the effect of having each creator drawing his own character is outstanding.

The writing is one cliche after the other. I don't like it. This doesn't hold up to the original Youngblood#1. Which was more fun. I didn't like the Joe Casey rewrite of the first Youngblood mini either. It's like some sort of "easy listening" comic.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in the first issue. Maybe because I was really looking forward to this series, I set my expectations too high, and after issue #1 I'm not that eager for #2. I'll finish the series, but it won't be on the top of my read pile.

OK! Chapel is working for Al? I wonder who's side would Marcus Langston be on?

The first issue was good and a lot of fun.

The second was a mess, imo.

And no I'm not expecting this to be another Watchmen, lol.

Comparing the first and the second issue is what I am doing.

    The second was a disappointment.

I loved the art. It's great seeing McFarlane pencil stuff again. Plus, he inks some others work I believe. Great stuff. The stories little messed up, but I can deal.

Issue 2 had slightly better storytelling, but the dialogue and art suffered a lot. So we traded a god-awful issue one that looked mostly pretty for a terrible issue that looked average.

This feels like a 3rd string book from a tiny independent company (i can't think of any mainstream series this decade that was this bad), not like a book written by the guy from Invincible and Haunt and drawn by superstar artists.

I'm with Greg Anderson except I like what they've done with Al. My only gripe is with Todd McFarlane's artwork. Very poor for a "comeback". Also, got to mention that I'm going to save my money instead of buying a "retelling" of issue 1. The rest has got to be the same old shit.

From what I was told McFarlane inked the first book and we can see in the credits that Liefeld did the layouts.

With the second, Larsen did the layouts and they had additional inkers and colorists.

I expected better from something that could almost be called the "flagship" title with all the hype and creators surrounding it.

Next issue will be make or break for me.

    Uhhh--not quite.

Todd inked his own characters in #1 and a couple isolated figures (one Badrock, one Shadowhawk) and everybody else inked their own characters when they appeared. Rob laid out the issue (all but the one page--the solo Savage Dragon page).

In #2 again, everybody inked their own characters.

The only guy who doesn't ink is Valentino. His figures are usually inked by Rob Liefeld although I inked Shadowhawk on the cover of #2, Todd inked Shadowhawk in one panel in #1 and Chance Wolf inked the monster in #2.

Todd often adds stuff on pages he touches. He'll add details to backgrounds and even on other people's figures. He added details to my art a few times in #2.

How do you guys feel about that? I think I saw a CBR boat show episode where this was briefly mentioned and it seemed like you were not a big fan of Todd's additions to your work. He has a very distinctive style and using Haunt as an example, it seems like his inks have a large effect on the end art. Did you guys remove the added details?
