Default Did You See The News About Global Frequency?

    Reposting from Stumptown Trade Review:

FrequencySite is reporting that the CW has ordered up a pilot script for Global Frequency! This is fantastic news for fans of the 12-issue comic mini-series (by Warren Ellis), or for people who managed to get their hands on one of the pirated copies of the excellent 2005 pilot episode (which was not picked up).

Warren Ellis has confirmed on his blog that this is in the works.

With the success of shows such as Fringe and Bones, as well as the mega-popular police procedurals such as the CSI and Law & Order franchises, it is no surprise that the networks would be fishing around for some combination of the two. It appears Global Frequency may fit the bill.

However, I am not going to hold my breath on this one. This is just the earliest of phases. The scrip still needs to be approved, then funding raised, then a pilot shot. Then the pilot needs to be picked up... Like I said, this is just the earliest of stages. But, given my fondness for the source material, it brings a smile to my face to see that at least some steps are being taken!

I bet you it won't be even picked up.This is the CW were are talking about, if it does not have teen vampires and young people who should be in magazines and not on screen.Crappy network, will fine it too sophisticated for their taste.best bet was to go with AMC or showtime or HBO. less people will be watch but altest it is better on those networks then the CW.

It will never happen because the CW doesn't make shows like this.

Actually, Supernatural is an excellent show thats managed to stay on the CW. Mind you, they didn't create it (that was WB), but they have kept it around.

Can't say I was a fan of the Global Frequency comic. Wish someone would do a Planetary TV series instead. That said, if GF is done right, maybe it'll be good.

Wasn't there a pilot made a few years ago of GF?

Yep. It also went viral on the internet. I never saw it but I heard it was pretty good and stayed pretty faithful to the comic book. IIRC one change they made was to create a couple of field agents who would be regulars on the show since in the comics the only 'regulars' were Miranda Zero and Aleph and Zero didn't often go out into the field (she was supposed to be the 'mysterious organizer' and Aleph didn't really go into the field at all, so they created these couple of agents to kind of be the 'touchstones' for the audience. The rest of the TV series, as planned, would then pretty much follow the comic book series with one (or more) person on the Global Frequency being 'activated' each episode to work alongside the regular agents.

A one hour pilot episode was filmed to be shopped around to the networks but none of them bit. Then the pilot got leaked out and it was all downhill from there. I still see bootleg DVD copies of the pilot at comic book shows occasionally.

Don't I know it, Supernatural is one of the 4 shows (As well as Venture Bros, Metalocalypse and South Park) that I watch on tv, but that doesn't mean that the CW would create something as smart as GF.

The CW is the teeny bopper airhead network. Supernatural is the diamond in the landfill.

Yes, there was a pilot and it was pretty good. It had a real "X-Files" feel to it. They did make the change of having two field agents to follow instead of a rotating cast (got to make it more viewer friendly).

I'm not sure why it was not picked up. it was a solid pilot with real potential. They must have had a hard time figuring out the marketing of it all and what niche it would fill.

It would be nice to see another attempt at this.
