Great interview. I'm really looking forward to this. I like all the layers that Gillen is adding to this story.
"...Doom's enemies have not the mettle to challenge him host to host, tooth to nail... As economic and military options fail them, they resort to simple rudeness."
I really enjoyed the first issue. Pleasantly surprised at how good it was from such a relatively unknown.
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.
I am a male. Deal with it.
I've never really been a big fan of Billy Tan's work, but those pages look fantastic. Can't wait for this next issue.
After all the back and forth about JMS' departure it is really great that Gillen is getting off to such a fine start and is being so well received.
The #1 thing he can do to get the Thor fans on his side?
Crank out one Thor issue a month.
With the tie in schedule for Siege that seems very likely.
We are getting 2 Thor issues in December - 2!
I swear at this point - that alone will convert 75% of folks that aren't sure about him yet.
I'm loving his Ares and think his take on Thor is promising.
Tan sure is bringing his A game.
Live Comics. Love Comics.

I had a lot of doubts about this Gillen/Tan creative team when it was first announced. But after one issue in, I have no complaints thus far.
Bringing Tyr into the mix was pure genius . . . Gillen seems to be a thoughtful writer who's done his homework.
I think Gillen is off to a great start on Thor. The transition to him from JMS felt pretty seamless.
I really like the idea of seeing more of Tyr too. I knew of him but can't think of ever actually seeing him in comics. So I'm looking forward to Gillen fleshing him out.
He's actually appeared quite a few times . . .

True. But even there, it looks like he hasn't appeared in any substantial way for a couple decades almost. So it's not surprising this is my first real exposure to Tyr. Compared to Balder, Sif, the Warriors Three, even Heimdall... Tyr doesn't show up much. He does seem like a potentially cool character though, so I hope Gillen makes some good use of him.
Anyone else think that was the Destroyer armor that grabbed him at the end of the previews there?
Oh yeah, I think that the Destroyer armor may have been part of a bargain between Loki and Doom. I just wonder how he is animating it.
"...Doom's enemies have not the mettle to challenge him host to host, tooth to nail... As economic and military options fail them, they resort to simple rudeness."
Since Siege is Norman Osborn vs. Asgard, it sets up the possibility of a Tyr vs. Ares battle.
That said, in the FCBD issue, Ares seemed to hold Thor in high regard (calling him "Lord Thor" and so forth) so I wonder if he'll be on the sidelines in this conflict or if it will be the trigger for Ares switching sides at some point.
