Wow...those are really cool finds, tigerkaya. Never have seen the Jim Lee one before and a Dustin Weaver Doom & Magneto? That's a rarity. I'd be afraid to ask what a commission like that would cost.

Howdy Doom Appreciation Thread! Found something that might be of interest. It's an article, written by ComicsAlliance's Chris Sims, about how the Good Doctor is the most versatile villain in comics. Good excerpt:
Dr. Doom is arguably the greatest villain in comics, and while he certainly has a set of arch-enemies in the Fantastic Four, he's evolved into the kind of villain that can menace an entire world of heroes. And I think a lot of that comes from the fact that he's essentially built like a hero.

Thanks for the info, it would have bugged me to hell and back since I can't properly get comics right now.

Doom and Magneto should team up more often, I just loved his line to Magneto about redemption from that X-Men/Future Foundation cross over, classic Doom in my opinion just the right ratio of self confidence/arrogance.

    Hi and welcome.

I agree with most of the author's POV. I don't think you will find many villains in the medium that has appeared in as many stories and squared off against (and sometimes allies with) as many of the protagonists. So there's very little room to debate that he's not the most versatile. How many times has Magneto (when he was still considered a villian), Green Goblin or Kang fought against the Fantastic Four, Avengers, Daredevil, SHIELD, Thor, and so forth.

I don't agree with the part that he says Doom " ...is inherently hilarious. He's a big guy in metal armor with a goofy metal mask that runs around in a green miniskirt and a cape, referring to himself in the third person and building time machines so that he can get his hands on some pirate treasure".

It's a tunic, dammit ! Kirby was going for something medieval in design, perhaps to contrast the Fantastic Four and their modern, utilitarian style uniforms. And truth to tell, there's very few comic book characters that aren't a bit on the ridiculous side when it comes to their costume design. There's a reason why you don't see Wolverine is his yellow and blue costume in the movies.

Come to think of it, I do wish a writer one day would expound just a bit on why Doom has this attachment to a bygone age. I suppose it serves to demonstrate that he is a man full of contradictions who embraces both science and sorcery who can be noble when he's not up to some nefarious scheme.

I'm pretty certain he should be a villain for the Avengers in the movies…sadly he's owned by another studio.

Doom is a cool character. It is sad Marvel don't own the movie rights to their two biggest villains in Magneto and Doom.

In time, in time...I feel that Doom will be the one to come home before Magneto as he is deeply entrenched in Fox's contract with marvel and all X-related characters/films. Doom is in the F4 deal and I think there is certainly a better chance of him coming home...sooner than later I hope.

Can you imagine a Dr. Doom done RIGHT at Marvel...all the characteristics that we love about Doom...his ego, his facial disfiguration...his determination, his indominable will power...his genius...his hatred of Richards....his country of Latveria and how it looks like something out of Frankenstein but fused with the most modern of tech, and his love of mother!

Doom has the potential to become the greatest movie villain in history if done just right...Darth Vader is usually ranked up there as the best but could Doom truly pull it off? Would he need more than one movie to do it?

I guess the closest we will get for now is the appearance in the "Earth's Mightiest" cartoon where he curbstomped both he Avengers and 3 of the Fantastic Four. Maybe animation is the best chance at getting a crossover too since there seems to be no problem sharing characters in the Avengers cartoon. I'd like to see a movie-style full length one though.

Fox has been awfully quiet about any sort of development of a new Fantastic Four movie. They've talked about a reboot but there's been no word of any director or screenplay attached to the project. I'd love to find out that there's been some horse trading going on and maybe Marvel will get the Fantastic Four back. I thought that Fox was under the gun to get something going or they will lose the rights. I'd love to know just what is going on with that.
