I saw an interview recently where even Stan Lee said he was disappointed in the way Doom was handled in the movies. He ought to come back and come back in a BIG way. I don't care who he goes up against, whether it be the Avengers, solo or team, F4, Spidey, or X-Men. Just do it right.

BTW, Loki put on a really respectable villainous turn in the latest Avengers movie, full of nuance and venom. And the next villain is ... (not Doom) :(

Great finds, Tigerkaya! Love the Jim Lee especially.

So, are we getting a Doom or a Kristoff appearance with AvX #4?

All right! More cool pics! That Ron Frenz is definitely old school cool.

    Default Winter Soldier #5 Preview

Once again, tigerkaya adds some nice Doom art to the thread... thanks!

Loving the preview for next week's Winter Solider #5. Kragoff is practically drooling over getting to see some Doom tech

Brubaker and Hickman are moving higher and higher up the list on my all time favorite Doom writers. What I think would be cool if Doom has a comeback to Fury that tells him how he made him chase his tail fighting a Doom created robot of the Yellow Claw way back in Steranko's "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D"

I love the way Doom gets his digs in at Fury .... "Von Doom stopped trying to keep track of all your promotions and demotions long ago." ROFLMAO!

Here's some new scans from a couple of old books, from recent trades, starting with one of my favs from the cover of Fantastic Four #199:

    And Fantastic Four #200:

And the Avengers Private War of Dr. Doom out now:

I had to laugh when he just ended up calling him "Mr. Fury"....what do you want to bet that he ends up flirting with Natasha?

I have that on order....did you get your copy already? And is SVTU #9 a variant cover for that? I can't remember who the cover artist is though...early George Perez maybe??

In other news of note, in this week's Axel-in-charge, he expressed a surprising interest in the 2099 universe while replying to a question about the Marvel UK characters...

Alonso: I can't recall anyone coming to us with an interest in those UK characters. That said, I am interested in some of those characters – Death’s Head, for instance. Be cool to see what Warren Ellis or Garth Ennis would do with him. I’m also intrigued by the 2099 Universe – thought at this point, maybe it needs to be 3099. In the current market, either would be a challenge, but given the amazing sales of "Avengers Vs. X-Men," and the fact that we’re entering into another daring period for publishing, who knows what we might attempt?
I'd be happy if they just started collecting Doom 2099 in an omnibus or something. You'd think Marvel would want to put out early Warren Ellis stuff at least.

Re: Avengers The Private War of Dr. Doom. Mine came into the comic shop this week.

There are two covers for the book, this one:

Which is the one I got.
This cover is a variant, also available:

The picture I posted earlier is a "pinup" inside the book. I don't know what else to call it. It's not quite the same but obviously a reprint of the original cover of SVTU #9:

Anyone else read Doom's dialogue Christopher Lee's voice?

There is another actor from the Hammer horror era of films that I thought would have made a great Doom voice and that is the Czech born actor Herbert Lom. His voice has a mostly British accent with just a slight touch of the Eastern European. He's had a long career in films and probably most people remember him from the Pink Panther comedies with Peter Sellers. But he was also the title character in Hammer's version of the Phantom of the Opera, Captain Nemo in the Mysterious Island verson with the Harryhausen special effects, and much earlier was Napoleon in War and Peace. Some other good choices would be Jeremy Irons or Alan Rickman.

I noticed that in this week's Winter Soldier

    spoilers:
Nick Fury calls Doom "the second-smartest man in the world". Leaving aside the obvious pro-Richards bias , that's an interesting assessment to hear from someone as clued up on his supergeniuses and their activities as Fury. Confirmation that it is indeed a Doom vs. Richards competition for the top slot?
    end of spoilers

Why does the variant cover of the Private War of DR. DOOM, not have DR. DOOM on it?

    Hmmmm. I can do that.

Winter Soldier was fun ... except for

    spoilers:
Bucky telling Doom to shut up! Why is Bucky not a smoking pile of cinders?

Heck, I'm still waiting on that Doctor Doom omnibus. Would have been a great idea for the 50th anniversary of his debut.

I wondered if this was taking place when Doom was still brain-damaged. I can't believe he let it pass when Fury called him the second smartest. The cover was deceptive though because it wasn't Bucky that was fighting the gorilla

I wish we had learned more about Lucia and Victor's past history though but I guess we never will. Just like I am doubtful will ever learn about that possible ancestor of Doom's that appeared ages ago in Brubaker's Captain America. I still am not quite sure where in Doom's timeline this is taking place. He isn't in his Future Foundation colors but we do have Kristoff serving as regent of Latveria. So I suppose it's quite possible this might be the brain damaged version of Doom.

There were a couple of minor Doom related appearances this week.

    Daredevil spoilers:
ends up shanghaied by teleportation and ends up in Latveria. It seems there's some money laundering going on in Latveria involving the big time criminal organizations.
end of spoilers I'm curious to see what path Waid will take with Doom on this since he hasn't touched the character since his Fantastic Four run.

Incredible Hulk has just a brief cameo to show that Doom is experimenting on the Gamma beasts acquired from the island.

There's also the brief cameo in Hickman's Fantastic Four 605.1 that has a startling reveal about the Council of Reeds. I loved the look of Mike Choi's Viktor von Doom in the alternate universe but yikes! I felt sorry for the way he ended up. It seems like all the good versions of himself end up badly. I remember Professor Von Doom in the old Warlock series got killed.
