I wonder, was another story planned? Any one know why the Doom feature stopped on Astonishing Tales?
Well, I have to reluctantly admit I was puzzled by this as a young reader when my Dad picked up the next issue. My theory has always been that it could be that Deathsmasque was added to the Gerry Conway and Gene Colan Sub-Mariner run since I think they were announced as the new team on Astonishing Tales and then nothing came of it. Not at home right now but I believe the opening page of that Sub-Mariner arc says "Doomsmasque". Not much of a clue but that's all I came up with at the time. With no internet back then, you had only the Stan's Soapbox or letters pages to get news

Sounds like a good theory to me. Sub-Mariner 47 was early 1972, and Astonishing Tales #8 was late 1971, so it is conceivable they had saved that story in the drawer until they could use it. And Doomasque isn't to far off from Deathmasque.

    Thanks!

The last encounter with Dr Doom and Hulk from latest issue of Incredible Hulk (#7), Hulk vs Banner story line.

Doom is just so droll ... I loved it.

Guys…you have to read Superman #8 this week. Helspont is freaking DOOM! He talks like him and everything. I posted some screen grabs in my review, if you click the link in my signature you'll know what i mean.

Picked up this print off of ebay, arrived today:

Pat was so over the top with the cape, but it's still really cool.

Good call there, Rheged! Because you're absolutely right. From the AvX #3 preview:

Please don't tell us that Doom or Kristoff is not monitoring developments and will not try to turn this to his advantage. Especially when Wanda makes her move.

Yeah, there's a big argument in the AvsX thread about whether or not Cap has any jurisdiction over Utopia, which some X-Fans maintain is a sovereign nation. I tend to disagree because it's in US territorial waters. Tom Brevoort asserts on his Formspring Q & A in depends on the POV. Cyclops thinks it is but the rest of the nations on Earth in the MU don't.

Seems to me they better check with the Latverian government before barging in. I wonder if Doom is considered MIA and is back in the HQ of the Council of Reeds?

That's a neat print of Broderick's Doom 2099. I picked up the Arthur Adams print at C2 E2. I should post some of the stuff I got from there. Back at our other message board, I created a banner to acknowledge that this is the 50th anniversary of Doom's debut in FF #5, that has a cover date of July 1962. They usually would date those in advance so the stores could keep them on display longer.

At Rheged's suggestion, I asked a question on Jonathan Hickman's Formspring and he did give a reply...and he says he remembered me from C2 E2 from a couple of years ago. I don't know if that's good or bad

    Here is the link

Q: Hi....met you at C2E2 a couple of years ago and we talked about bringing Kristoff back. Thank you so much for probably having planned it all along! Q: Will we see just how Doom survived being attacked by 4 Celestials??

A: I remember. The Doom stuff is still up in the air for 50 or so reasons. As such, any flashbacks rest on certain things happening at Marvel, so we'll see. But, yeah, I know what happened.

Jason Aaron told CBR that he plans to have Doom (and Amanda) make more appearances in Hulk:
Issue #7 also hinted that Doctor Doom isn't the only Doom in the Hulk's immediate future. Amanda Von Doom and her Mad Squad, who helped the Hulk neutralize Banner, will also have a part to play in upcoming arcs. What can you tell us about their roles in upcoming issues?

They'll definitely be back! They're in the Point One issue which wraps up some of the threads from the Hulk Versus Banner story. Then, just like Doom, we'll see them again down the road. As to what role they'll play and whether they'll be allies or enemies of the Hulk, that remains to be seen.

So it looks like Doom will at least appear briefly in the 7.1 issue then farther along in around #14. I guess you can say he has settled the score with Banner from the Fall of the Hulks storyline where he ended up getting brain damage. Now you have to wonder what he plans to do with the specimens he gathered up after the gamma bomb blast.

I am still curious about Amanda von Doom and her ties to Latveria. Despite her protests to the contrary, she must be a relation since the other prisoners knew she was a von Doom. There must be some unrevealed link to the family tree. We never did know for example if there were others from his father's side of the family in Latveria.

This was in Bendis's early part of the run on Mighty Avengers, when Sentry was part of Tony's team. Doom had just come back from "visiting" Morgan Le Fey when the Avengers invaded his castle because of the Venom bomb that accidentally got triggered. During the battle, Doom's time platform took Stark, Sentry and Doom about 10 years or so into the past. They are talking about Sentry's mind wipe IIRC. But I'd have to check at home, unless someone else has access to the issue. Doom's cloak is tattered as a result from a blast from Sentry.

Going back to that time, the early issues of Bendis's on MA were pretty entertaining. Lately, I find him annoying and I feel he's stayed at the dance to long on the Avengers titles.
