In the Ash Wood comic D'Arain Aventure, we did two chapters of a 3-part prequel story. When that mag didn't go beyond two issues, we finished the story and ran all three parts in the collected edition, both the hardcover and the Complete ZvR TPB. It's certainly not essential to you understanding the new series, though, but the prequel chapters were my favorite ZvR stories I'd done before this new series.
