Captain Marvel placed at #42. Exact sales-figures have not yet been released. Keep in mind that there is AvX and Before Watchmen going on. There will also be another printing of the issue. Avenging Spider-Man #9 placed at #49. X-Treme X-Men, another #1 from Marvel, placed at #51.

In comparison to other female-led titles, Captain Marvel #1 placed behind Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Silk Spectre and Hit Girl. It placed ahead of World's Finest, which was right below it, as well as Batwoman which was not too far behind. Supergirl, Catwoman and Birds of Prey continue to sell consistently also.

    There you have it!
Based on the reported Walking Dead numbers, Captain Marvel probably sold around 50k copies, which isn't bad but hardly a smashing success for a #1. The overall sales will probably be a bit higher after adding in the second printing, though. It will all depend on what kind of a steady following it can grab, but I don't really see the book surviving past the fall given the flood of Marvel Now titles and the DC zero issues. The story really needs to get going ASAP, the book really can't afford any decompression at this point.

Well, they sort of fast-tracked Captain Marvel, didn't they? To take advantage of the NOW! and Avengers Movie goodwill? Which is why we have Ms Marvel over here, and Captain Marvel over here. I think Carol and company will get a fair chance, but it doesn't make me less anxious about it's chances. It feels like we're on the Titanic...are we sinking? Is that a sinking feeling...? I hope I'm pleasantly wrong. :P

I am surprised that a of folks thinks that Captain Marvel isn't going to last. This is a very competitive market. I wouldn't expect to see the title to sell over 100K copies. Marvel allowed Brian Reed to stay on Ms. Marvel for 50 issues before cancelling the book.

I don't think that we should give into to doom that quickly. The first issue wasn't overwhelming but I've read many first issues that weren't barn burners. On the other hand there isn't a lot of time given the vicious competition between Marvel and DC right now. In a way I think the title might have had a better chance coming from an small press like IDW or ONI, both Alpha Girl and Courtney Crumrin are two of my favorites right now and while Courtney had a bit of baggage from her last series the author has really used it to explore new ground. Unlike Marvel a small press title could have more time to find itself and at this point I think the mu is really crowded as the Avenger and X-men universes merge. But I think we'll just have to wait and see.

i'm loving Carol on the Earth's Mightiest cartoon. they really do take her seriously; as if she could step up and lead the team at any time.

Bleeding Cool released some speculative numbers.

Captain Marvel sold 41,582 copies. This does not include the second print. Here is the link...

Carol is a MILITARY WOMAN after all.

Especially with Peter Parker on a mutual friendship level as he has with Carol Danvers. I think that if she is a part of the Spider-Family, Jessica Drew might finally find a voice among the readers. How I would love to see Spidercide vs. Spider-Woman for example. Those are the sort of underused rogue characters that could work with Spider-Woman, in addition to the Prowler.
Poor sales had nothing to do with why the Spider-Woman series ended. Creator burnout did. After doing the motion comic, Maleev just had enough... and they didn't want to do the book without Maleev.

Spider-Man is not the solution to everything.

Wow, Batman: Earth One had some incredible sales for a HC, it would have been #62 on the floppies list!

Eh, if it had lit the sales charts on fire like it was supposed to, they would have found a way for it to continue, or at least they would have relaunched it at some later point.

I do not want to see her linked more to Spider-Man either. She actually has a cool rogues gallery of her own that could work with some modernizing.

As for her series, I think that timing and story had to do with it also. It kept being delayed for various reasons. The Skrull Queen plot may have worked for Secret Invasion, but it led to a Jessica Drew we had just met who now gets to carry a solo series. That may not have been the best route for her. The motion picture comic was a hit on iTunes, but it may have dampened sales for the print series.

I would enjoy seeing Jessica given another shot with a good creative team.

Don't see how distancing her from Spider Man helps the character at all.

Her just showing up in his book occasionally would get her more attention than what she'd usually get.

Well, it outsold Captain America and Fantastic Four, and I don't think Marvel will be canceling those books anytime soon.

(yes yes, I know it'll lose readers by issue two, but hopefully not too many. And hopefully not because of the art)
