I agree..
I think social worker aspect maybe the key to fixing the pimp retcon.
He currently know parents were killed in to different acts of crime/violence... father ( killed trying to break up a neighborhood fight.) when Sam was 16 & mother (killed by a mugger one block from their apartment.) when Sam was 18.
Also we currently know that his father was a minister & that both his were deeply religious.
So I think it would be a interesting I'd if the to events were linked as in some one (maybe Stone-Face) put a hit out on his parents because they were better there community by turns some of the kids/ppls lives around or something to that effect.
Then you could go with he with under cover & made up the snap wilson persona to find out who had his parents killed.
few other ideas on how to fix the pimp retcon :

Sarah Casper & Gideon Wilson (Sam sister & brother).. I believe they are both order than him (I know his brother is).. I think writing them talk/hanging out & etc would be good character development for him. such as how if at all did the youngest child effect his life such as did he live in there shadow/shadows as kid or fee & etc.
Power/tech/abilities/etc
In the Utl. U he is an explorer, adventurer, and scientist. In the 616 I think it would be best if he was seen as an crimefighter, adventurer and social worker.
I think he could used a offensive weapon or two... Maybe a feathers or talon shaped projectiles.
His abilities/empathic link to see, feel, know & etc what birds know should be used alot more. How it effect him both positively & negatively.
Also I think it would cool/great/interesting if it was revealed that he had his empathic link with birds before the cosmic cube as long as its done with out making him a mutant..
Maybe make him a reserve SHIELD or A.R.M.O.R. operative or both..
For him to work better a character imo you need to get away from Captain America (the 1 on the way back & the current one).. He needs to be shown as more of his on person & not some who live revolves around other heroes & etc
I read online that he was the leader of some team called S.H.I.E.L.D. Super-Agents
http://marvel.wikia.com/Samuel_Wilso...616%29#History
Maybe give him a team to lead again or something like that.

Read Ultimates Annual # 2 da other day & thought Utl. Flacon was great in it... I wish 616 Flacon was type character/written more like Utl. Flacon.

I do like Ultimates Sam Wilson loads. 616 Sam Wilson, has yet to grow on me. But Ultimates Sam? Yes, please.
I like the second retcon idea better: The Skull turned a virtuous man into a thug just to eff with Cap. This way he still gets to be a good guy and a thug. He still needs to have the thug past to give him a motivation for his crime fighting. Only now his thuggery was the result of brain washing.
Falcon could work very well as either the leader of a reformed Crew or in partner ship with either the new Nomad or Patriot or both (If Falc has been a mask for 7+ years in Marvel time Patriot probably grew up looking up to Sam Wilson as a personal hero). And Rikki Barnes has worked with Falc before (tho he doesn't remeber it.)
Falcon as mentor/teamleader would be a nice turnaround from his sidekick origins.
I think his parents being murdered during criminal acts would be enuff motivation(Like the Batmen (Dick & Bruce), Night Thrasher, Kyle Richmond/Nighthawk (Earth-31916) & etc.
I feel Patriot should be his uncle partner .. I could live with Rikki (because I think she's a cool character) I'd prefer if he mentored Reptil or Carmilla Black or Araņa or Cloud 9 or Alex Wilder or Veda or & Aralune.
I also like the idea of him leading a new Crew, but it think it's key to distance him form Cap (Steve or James)
Maybe
Sam
Kasper
Josiah X
Shang-Chi
Jason Strongbow
Colleen Wing
Fah Lo Suee
Junta
Network/Valerie Martin
Tarantula
Leila Taylor
Scott Lang (when he comes back)
Otis Danger Johnson

Falcon leading a new Crew sounds like a wonderful idea.
I wonder what kind of(if any) role he will play in Siege.

Lots to catch up with on Falcon appreciation:
Team Dynamic: I like Falcon as a partner to Cap - any version, the dynamic with Bucky Cap trying to impress Sam was GOLD. Otherwise I like Falcon on a team like the Avengers (or a new version of the Defenders - which is what I call Cage's Avengers team :-) )as one of the specialized "costumed athletes" adding a human perspective.
Snap Wilson the Pimp: I'm comfortable with the "Snap" personality being explained as a part of Dissociative Identity Disorder ("DID" aka Multiple Personality Disorder) which was how young Sam Wilson developed in order to survive his harsh reality. I also like how writer Christopher Priest brought back aspects of Snap when needed for the situation. It adds depth to Falcon, especially as a character of color where the tendency is to make them too "perfect".
Best Writer(s): Christopher Priest, CAPTAIN AMERICA AND FALCON was a great little title that got lost in the Disassembled shuffle. I didn't read much of Waid's take on the character in Captain America, but I'd like to. Unlike most of Geoff John's AVENGERS, which I felt was off, I liked his use of Falcon.
Favorite costume(s):
Gotta love the hardlight wings and the "ultimates" style suit. Lacks a little bit of superhero flair...something that is dying a slow death these days in favor or "realism"
I like the athleticsm and sex appeal of the side panels of skin/muscle showing.
Credit to Andy Kubert for making the clunky Avengers:United We Stand cartoon costume work as best he could.
Casting Call:
WILL SMITH as The Falcon
I like the idea of an unknown actor playing Cap with "big name" Will Smith as the scene stealing partner. Has the makings a good buddy flick dynamic. Street smart and razor sharp Sam Wilson as the anchor for Steve Rogers "man out of time". If the Captain America movie becomes a franchise, I could see that as a 2nd or 3rd installment after Cap arrives in the modern day. Smith could be sold on playing "second" to the star by the opportunity to play the DID aspect of the character.
Falcon should date Songbird! Come on... he could use his smooth line about his "special relationship with birds."
I'd love it!
