PROLOGUE: ONCE UPON A DREAM...
"My reign of terror was the stuff of legends, an epic tale of slaughter and mayhem. Dozens of children fell by my blades. And then the parents of Springwood came for me, taking justice into their own hands... and unleashing an even greater menace. When I was alive, I might have been a little naughty. But when they killed me,I became something much, much worse. The stuff that nightmares are made of. Children still feared me, and their fear gave me the power to invade their dreams. And that's where the fun really began"
"But eventually, they figured out a way to forget about me, to erase me completely. Being dead wasn't a problem, but being forgotten, now that's a bitch.I can't come back if nobody remembers me, I can't come back if nobody's afraid!"
“And so I devised a plan. I wouldn't come back through fear, but through force. I searched the world over for someone who I could possess so I could extend my powers to the real world. Someone with enough darkness inside, with supernatural powers that could rival my own. Eventually I found someone, someone called The Undertaker. A being of darkness, he would prove to be a suitable host. After invading his dreams, I began to possess him; I took control of him- body, mind, and soul. Now, though I am trapped in his body, soon I will be powerful enough to regain my own form. All I have to do is wait, wait for to regain all my powers. And then, without the constraints of the Dreamworld, I can reach my full potential! Through the Undertaker, I will unleash my powers across the planet, making myself more powerful than I could have ever imagined. They thought I was powerful then, wait till they see me now!"
Cut to scene of Freddy experiencing Undertaker's body for the first time. The area is Salem, MA.
"Now this is a body I could get used to" Freddy said, as he flexed his arms.
Suddenly, the image in the mirror began to swirl and warp, flashes of lightning playing across its surface. Freddy turned his head to see the cause, but the rest of the room remained as it was; the chaos was confined solely to the mirror.
“What the hell is this?"
As Freddy watched, the reflection began to settle, revealing a hellish landscape, and an albino figure clad in green sitting upon a stony throne.
“Good evening,” the figure greeted Freddy in stentorious tones. “My name is… NIGHTMARE.”
"Welcome to the club, pal,” Freddy remarked, feigning indifference. In truth, he was wary. Great power emanated from the creature, familiar power. The power of dreams.
“I’m disappointed. Doesn’t my name mean anything to you? I stand quite high among the hierarchy of the Dreamworld.”
The Undertakers massive shoulders shrugged in response. “What can I say? Never was one to follow politics."
Suddenly, a feeling of lightheadedness swept through Freddy’s newfound mortal flesh. “What the…?” he felt weaker than before, and for a moment, he thought he could sense the Undertaker’s spirit throbbing deep inside. “What did you do to me?!?!?”
Nightmare sneered. “You may get your powers from Dream Demons, mortal- but I AM a Dream Demon!!!”
Again, Freddy felt his dream powers being tugged at by the denizen of the mirror. This time, he pulled back, clinging desperately to his weakened aura, but Nightmare was strong. It took every effort of his will to fight, until Nightmare relinquished his hold.
“Why don’t you come out here and fight like a man?” Krueger bellowed, clenching his fists angrily.
Nightmare laughed, a grating cackle. “Not a chance, fool! In the waking world, I am nearly as powerless as you once were. With your present body, you would be more than a match for me.” He stroked his chin, triumphantly. “I think I’ll remain where I am.”
Krueger’s mind raced as he struggled to cope with this sudden and unexpected wrinkle in his plans.
“What do you want, demon?”
