Default CBR: Behind the Fall of an Autobot

"Transformers" #1 is in stores soon, but CBR readers discovered yesterday that a major character will fall. We spoke with editor Andy Schmidt about the decision to kill the veteran Autobot and the consequences for the other Robots in Disguise.

It'll take me a good number of issues before I'm used to this.

I think that the art will take a little getting used to but i like how it is a mix of movie and old school. I think this is how the movie should have looked. I can't wait to read this. But i have not read All Hail Megs will I have to read it first?

Nope. You'll not need to read "All Hail Megatron." While events are reflected, you get the gist of it real quickly in the context of the first issue.

I hope you like the book!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but how many times has this been done already? Bumblebee has "died" at least three times since 1984. So has Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Ratchet, and the list goes on. The 1986 movie alone was a virtual slaughterhouse.

As soon as Hasbro risks losing the trademark for Ironhide, he will be pulling a Steve Rogers of his own and none of this will be relevant anymore.

In any case, I will give the first issue a try. Good luck with the series.

I am all for killing characters off, but the style of art is horrible, I am sorry, this Michael Bay "Tech organic" look sucks. Also CBR shows the character dying??? Why do i have to buy the book now? Also Ironhide was one of my lease favorite character of the TF's. Sorry no buying for me.

I have to agree with the expressed sentiments: the art (well, the depiction of the Transformers to be specific) is really jarring and ... well, terrible.
The way they were done in All Hail Megatron, Infiltration, Decimation, etc ... that was excellent. This new direction is just plain ugly.

You really think that art is "terrible"??

It may not be to your liking, but calling it terrible is saying there is something actually wrong with it, which just isnt true.

As I said, the way the TFs are depicted is terrible. The non Transformer aspects of the art is absolutely fine.

Previously, they were depicted in a much cleaner manner - much more human if anything. The new direction seems to take away quite a portion of the human aspects of their character and that is what is terrible.

This is the first time I ever heard they killed off Jinx in GI Joe and now this death.

I got to say it does ask the question that I hope to have answered witihin this series: if the Humans do not want to do anythimg with the Transformers, both good or bad, then I don't know what can the Autobots do ?

I'm still confused on why there was a need to incorporate the "Tech-Organic" look into the main story. If people like that look they've got the Movie tie-ins I thought this book was more for those that prefer the old school style.

Throughout AHM we had the normal look then WACK we've got the Organic look.

As I said elsewhere, I'm not sure how "new" this direction is.

The Transformers Magazine has been doing this for a while as well.

There's nothing wrong with that look. It's still quite true to recent depictions.

    The movie-esque one is not.

Just as long as they continue to inject the obscure classic characters like Doubledealer and Banzaitron, I'll be happy. Though I realize that was mostly due to Simon Furman in -Tion saga, I suppose the possibilities still exist with this new series.

And no more brand new original characters in Generation 1, please.
Seems like huge chunk of All Hail Megatron was just a big ad for that stupid Shane Mccarthy created character Drift. Nobody heard of him and cared before and nobody cares now after the series ended.
