I was pretty pleased with Ares' new look, all I could think when I saw it was Rucka Rucka Rucka! Wooo!

I must admit that I'm disappointed about the flirtation between Alkyone and Achilles. I personally would've preferred a gay male character since we've not seen that in this franchise (where there is so much subtextual lesbianism on top of the straightness). That aside, their dynamic seemed more flat than sparky, like two amputees trying to figure skate together ... it looked a little awkward.

... what? So the co-ordination of the GL books for the past like, forty issues is nothing compared to two panels referencing a storyline Gail finished like, two minutes ago? It was cool and all to see Artemis but that's just way overboard to make those kinds of statements.



I really enjoyed the Donna/Diana interaction and I pretty much enjoy Donna whenever she appears in the book. I also don't see why people are that hung up about the silver lasso, it's not a big deal yet.

The image of Alkyone's bald head with the Wonder Woman tiara was also incredibly creepy.

Achilles IS gay.

I liked this issue but Bernard's Diana doesn't work for me. I much prefer Aaron's because I feel Aaron draws a more dynamic and "fierce" Diana even when she is not in battle. Bernard draws Diana's hair flat and it just doesn't look right to me. I feel that Aaron strikes the perfect balance between the Perez curly locks and Terry Dodson's long and wavy.

In fairness, I think that Bernard's art is best when he inks himself, which it looks like he did in this issue. His Ares was wicked, Alkyone, Achilles and Hippolyta were pretty awesome too!

On the story, I enjoyed the battle between Diana and Donna because of the power of Diana's decision to stop fighting her sister. Gail's writing Diana to choose to throw away her greatest weapon to save her relationship was SO beautiful in its power!

My only concern? Where's Etta and Steve? We've seen everyone else who had a role in Rise of the Olympian except these two very important people in Diana's family. Is Etta out of the hospital? Has Steve rebuilt DMA?

Always waiting in anticipation of the next issue!

Risky move. I'll try to keep an open mind here but why? What does Achilles being gay add to the story. Another thing Achilles, i feel lacks conviction, probably deliberate, it makes his fall a bit predictable.

If Achilles ends up weeping on Diana's shoulders I won't be surprised.

I thought the spar between Achilles and Alkyone actually hinted at pretty heavily that he is gay (and I see Gail has now provided us confirmation of that). I found it quite a fascinating scene, especially when you take into account everything that has been said or shown about Amazon mating play before this issue (such as Diana's words to Tom in #35).

It's different. He rules the Amazon's and he's gay. Seems risky as some will find it offensive I'm sure but some won't. It's different and I like it. His conviction is he was created by Zeus for this purpose. I like the guy. I hope he stays around.

Is it that much of a stretch to make Achilles gay? In Homer's stories he was in love with his male cousin. And what's wrong with having gay characters? I doubt Gail is trying to be "different"; there are gay people in this world believe it or not.

This sort of idea reminds me of the people who have the nerve to complain about having black characters "for the sake of being different".

I never said it was for the sake of it. I was said it was different and I LIKED IT! Plain and simple. My POV.

What would it really add to the story if he was Straight? I caught that Alkyone was a Lesbian when she first appeared. . There was an "air" about her I got. Achilles I didn't know about but Gail hinted at it. So I am not that surprised.

Would I be guessing wrong if I said you seem uncomfortable with the whole "Gay" theme?

Being "GAY" or "Straight" in a story should NOT be a HUGE factor to tell that story.

LOL. I love how there has to be a "reason" to justify a character being gay, or black, or, basically, anything buy a straight white guy.

I gotta say, I always thought I had a good handle on Alkyone, but it didn't really occur to me, at least based on her interactions with Achilles in these last two issues, that she was gay. Shows how much I know, I guess, heh.

(I think it has been fairly clear that Achilles is gay though. I guess you gotta wonder if Patroclus is among the Olympians)
