    Default Molecule Man Appreciation

I didn't even know Molecule Man existed until reading some threads about Dark Avengers #10 (etc) last week. I got on my Marvel Digital account and read the Secret Wars I (sadly only had issues 1-10). I then went to wiki.

Anyway, I am totally surprised about a character this powerful and with this much humanity slipping through my knowledge. I started reading comics again this year (having been an X-comics fan in 1990-1993).

So this thread is to talk about Molecule Man. Is he the dark presence in the doorway in Secret Invasion: Dark Reign??? Is he on a comeback???

What is up with his possible appearance at the end of Dark Avengers #10???

For those of you who want to track down strictly his Avengers appearances here are the issues:

Probably not worth tracking down all the Secret Wars II stuff though.

IMO, the first two shown above are the best ones. They show how powerful he WAS and how it is his own personality that defeats him.

It also was a great Tigra story as well as a great characterization story for the Big 3 (Cap, Stark and Thor) from the Avengers.

    Good stuff.

If you read it, jsut remember that he is WAY more powerful now, since he no longer has the limitation of only affecting non-living matter (they always said 'non-organic', but that was wrong. It was actually non-living).

If he is no longer a little dweeb (as it seems from the preview), then that is new to me. I hope they explain it (and what happened to Volcana, his girlfriend).

    I loved Avengers #266.

Also his use in Secret Wars and, yes, Secret Wars II were always a highlight for me. I found him to be one of the few sympathetic villains in those days.

    Shortpack's is worse.

Owen is no joke. He can kill Osborn and company with a thought.

Ugh, I said it before when it was just a rumour, but I'll say it again, Bendis is not going to get his characterization right. He is not a 'heavy' that would back up Osborn and scare the others in the Cabal (that is if he is the figure behind Osborn). He is a weak little man who wants nothing more than to have a quiet life with his girlfriend and leave all the ups and downs that come with superheroes and supervillains behind... oh, and he also happens to be the most powerful man on Earth. But, the power thing is way behind the fact that he is a dweeb.

From what is shown in the previews (I only checked them out because of this thread), with Enchantress hanging off him and him wheeling and dealing with Osborn, it shows that Bendis completely missed the point of the character... completely.

Dang, and he's been so spot on for the last few years, this ruins the run

It's all a very good example of the modern take on Marvel comics.. write the story and pigeon hole characters into the roles. If you're fine with that, they work. If you'd rather have character driven stories it's a hard pill to swallow.

Even after this series I'll try to remember the Owen Reece who just wanted to be left alone and despite that put it all on the line for humanity.

Even dweebs can sometimes get pissed off and stand up and say enough of this shit, until we know what is motivating him it's too early to judge. It might be a myriad of thing from the SHRA to the SI to a run in with Hammer. I have little faith in Bendis handling Owen but I'll have to give him some credit and not judge it on just a page or so. We don't know how much of what we have seen is realityor Owen's imagination, even if the two can be the same thing at his desire

If Bendis has Osborn intimating him I will be very pissed off since he is one of my favorite characters. they are going to job him, i just don't want it to be BP /Surfer or Spidey/Firelord stupid.

doesn't mean he isn't a poorly designed loser. just means he's powerful.
