I might be getting it... depends on the reviews. Hopefully it'll be good, like Astonishing thor series, or the whatchamacallit Loki .1.

Don't know if it's by McNiven, but I imagine that it's during Siege.

Oh, I like the photo preceding!

Now here's the moment when, after my being acquainted with Marvel's Thor for something like 43 years, he finally nailed #1 in my affections.

This one still makes me feel like bouncing around the room screaming "YES!"
    Mostly moved on to fanfiction.net...

    Plushbug - I couldn't agree more.
This was really the moment when Thor fans knew JMS was on to something great.

It's too bad the glacial pace and delays killed any momentum he had going for the book.

I'm getting my hands on all of the DeFalco/Frenz run and let me say this is probably my favorite run on the book. Yes, I love Simonson's, but DeFalco's run was just so much fun for me. I can't say enough good things about it. Sure, there were some missteps, but honestly, so what? I see far more glaring errors with many of today's top creators that I don't really care.

I disagree with the glaical pace, I actually liked the way JMS was doing things. Course there are those who didn't like the really slow movement in the story, but that wasn't the only problem. I think the main problem was that JMS wanted a year or so before doing any Events.

I don't read the new Thor series since its not what I like right now. I'm rereading Dan Jurgens run where Odin dies and thor about halfway through willingly hooks up with amora and she becomes his queen and Thor basically overthrows earth goverment.

He had plenty of time. It was already bi-monthly and he still had delays. If he really wanted to tell more stories before he had to get involved in events, he should have hurried the hell up. I cannot stand the constant practice of decompression used by most writers these days. I don't see the point in paying $3.99 for a book I can finish in 10 minutes, and that's being extremely generous. Especially when you have writers who cram their books full of content.

I enjoyed Jurgens run on the book. Also, another fan favorite era of mine. Honestly, I was a die-hard Avengers fanatic until the current regime came in. Now, the only Avengers books I read are Captain America and Journey into Mystery. The others I find leave such a bad taste in my mouth. And what's sad is Hawkeye and Mockingbird was such an enjoyable book. Very reminiscent of Gru's run on Cap, imo.

This might be strange but I never liked thors other series before Dan Jurgens run, though I did like thor taking on the celestials and actually made a hole in one of them and shattered Mjolnir.

I wasn't big on the newly revived Thor... he seemed kind of weak with his need for a full suit of armor. The thunder god I knew was tough and would rough it against all but the most powerful of foes (and then break out the armor). But yeah, this scene really brought the character home for me. He's not a superhero, he's a god --and how dare mortals heroic or otherwise tell him the way things will be.

I was also really hating what they were doing with Stark during that time (the civil war, initiative, him being a complete arse) and thought this might be the kind of thing to ground him a little. Too bad it didn't play out that way.
